I was playing btb and half my team quit so i just quit. I now am on a timed ban. Did they remove this feature where youre not penalized if half the team is gone?
Half the team is defined as half of the total players that loaded in. For example if someone crashes in the pregame lobby before the match formally starts only 7 players will load in. If 3 more players quit during the match technically 3/7 is less than 50% of the team and the next player to quit will receive a ban. After 4/7 have quit the remaining 3 players will be able to quit without penalty because now over 50% of the team has quit.
Its a stupid metric and isn’t told anywhere in game.
In rare (or common depends on who you ask) occasion it is possible for 3/4 players to crash in the pregame lobby which means a lone player can load into a 4v1 and be penalized if they quit.
Uhhh yeah when we loaded in only 7 people were there. Lol. Well thays wonky af xD but gold to know. Just saw we had 4 of 8 and went “well okay then” was surprised i jad. Atimed ban for it
There is 100% an issue with this right now. Twice I’ve quit today after half my team has left (yes everyone loaded in) and twice I’ve caught bans. Currently at 15 minutes because of more incompetence.
This happened to me. Halo 3 social 4s, all payers loaded in fine. 3 on my team quit. I then quit out and was banned.
They also added quit bans to Infection and Firefight. I don’t think too many people had issues with quitters in those gametypes.
If this was changed, 343 would have communicated it clearly in an informational news post and utilized the in-game “message of the day” system to let players know their intentions.
Im clearly kidding. 343 probably changed this and like normal never communicated it at all (maybe via Twitter, their preferred communication platform!). Good luck to the last few thousand players, 343 is actively driving away what’s left of us.
343, since you’re able to tweak the quit bans, maybe overhaul the entire thing instead of inserting into more unwanted places.
“Half of the total players loaded” makes no sense. There’s a reddit post from a year ago that copied out the text of a now missing stickied post from here that explicitly used “half of your team” and not “half of all the players loaded.” If a 4v4 turns into a 2v2, theres much less of a reason for the remaining players to leave since the teams are balanced again. A 4v4 turning into a 4v2 or 4v1 definitely is a waste of time for the remaining 5 or 6 players in 90% of the cases (SWAT/snipers may be an exception).

The point is the decision is made after the game loads, not when the players are matched - so if they disconnect right before the game fully loads, it will show in game as a 4v2 and you aren’t protected from quitter penalties.
Glad to know that I’m not the only one affected. For me it was two separate Reach Slayer games. What sucked even more is that I had teammates quit out of other games too after them. I couldn’t leave otherwise I would have been sitting on a 30 minute ban and whatever the hell the one after that is.
I don’t know what to tell you except that this is how it’s worked since its inception. If someone crashes in the pregame lobby and does not make in game the team size will be 3. I don’t recall where it’s been confirmed by a developer, but search with a team of 4 and you can easily prove its behavior yourself. Once a game has been found have 2 teammates yank their Ethernet port before the match officially starts, and you will find that the first player to quit will be banned. The last player to quit will not.
Infection is a disaster
