Quit unfun matches

This post doesn’t endorse quitting for the sake of quitting or annoying other players or griefing, it endorses quitting for your own sake.

Have you ever played MCC and felt that some matches were straight up unfair or lopsided? Have you ever thought that the matchmaking is biased and hates you? Have you ever gotten stressed because matches feel like 1v4? Well, if you have, I got the solution for you!

Quit.

I don’t mean quitting MCC though, I mean quitting matches. Quitting is not seen in a good regard, almost everyone hates quitters as they make the matches worse for them. But what about you? It sounds selfish, but quitting matches will most likely do you good. Being spawn camped? Quit. Lopsided match? Quit. Obviously going to lose by a massive lead? Quit.

Quitting is just losing quicker, but with a punishment.

What punishment? Well, you gotta wait up to 10 minutes before starting a new match. You are also not going to get any XP or advance completion challenges. But, if the match isn’t fun or is stressful, why care?

This doesn’t mean you can always quit, you gotta do some smart quitting. Quit only when you know the match isn’t one worth staying. Quit as early as you can while not being too early. And don’t quit because you lost the lead once or twice. Other tips would be to play some firefight or campaign if the ban got to 10 minutes, or if you get too stressed with the game take a break or play some FFA.

In my experience, quitting has made me get better matches. I’ve also gotten less angry with the game and it’s matchmaking system. Playing Halo became fun again thanks to quitting matches, I’m no longer staying in those 0-3 lopsided Invasion matches in Spire or Boneyard!

I’m going to continue quitting as long as the matchmaking system remains unfair and biased, especially in ranked. So 343, please fix it!

Staying in unfun matches is unhealthy, so start quitting a bit more even if just once a day!

But what about those left behind?

So, imaging this, you are playing a match of Halo 3 BTB in Valhalla. Everything is going fine until 1 person quits. Now it’s a 7v8 match, but wait… More people are quitting! It’s gotten to a bad point, it’s now 3v8. So, now what? Well, you are screwed. It’s either quit or get wrecked by the enemy team. Now you are mad, since in your opinion there was no reason to quit at all. The match was going well and all. So now you are being the victim.

This is a problem, and the reason why I think that although quitting might be good, it can do the opposite if you quit at the wrong time and place. So, to avoid these issues I propose:

Adding a quit vote, so that the whole team can vote to quit all at once, a.k.a surrendering.

You could also add Join-In-Progress for social matches, too. Both of these features would make sure people who want to quit can quit without feeling bad for the others, and the others would have teammates to continue playing with or at least have and opportunity to decide if they should surrender, too. I hope 343 sometime in the future adds one of these features (as well as fixing the matchmaking or updating Invasion, please!) as they would help make the game more enjoyable.

Anyway, I hope that this post helped you in enjoying MCC more, and if you have anything to add, please do!

TL;DR: Quitting unfun and stressful matches can make you enjoy MCC a bit more!

Posts like this wouldn’t need to exist if matchmaking didn’t put idlers, betrayers, and/or 0-20’ers on your team most of the time. Social in MCC is not fun. You’re right, quitting or not playing Social are the only ways to not hate the game. I prefer the latter since I’m tired of getting my hopes up in the first place.

I didn’t read much of the original post honestly as to me it’s really never ok to quit. Even if the game is going bad and you know your team is going to lose. But I will say the quit bans are soft enough to where even if you do quit it shouldn’t effect your gaming to much. The players who rack up long bans have definitely earned them as even a couple of quits here and there don’t get you long bans.

For me, Rocket League is the gold standard for online games. If your team is getting spanked, anyone on a team can request to forfeit. If everyone agrees, the game is over. You lose, but no penalty. If for some reason you are disconnected, you can rejoin the game you left, no penalty. Also, if just one person on your team leaves, you can quit. No penalty, you just take the loss.

I quit lopsided games all the time. When I’m seeing teammates feed, why should I try and get them a win? They deserve the loss and that’s what they’re getting. If this system is suppose to help them and make them want to stay, It’s not something I’ll support, they can enjoy the fat L and earn their wins in the future. Also on Reach, depending on my mood I usually dashboard Ridgeline, Highlands and Breakpoint. Repetitive and boring maps, I’ll spend 2 hours out of the 3 on maps I despise if not. That custom game browser can’t come soon enough.

While i don’t remember who said it, i was taught A true spartan finishes with honor. Losing power or running low on IRL time until something important happens (like going to work or an appointment) is one thing. But quitting out just because you either suck, having a bad experience, or just want to see the team suffer is the main issue of why social is not fun to play in.

  • 1vX is never fun. Whether you are on the side with 1 or the side with X. Just stick it out. Hide if you can. If you can find a spot the enemies wouldn’t think to look (or discover) you can hide there until the match is up. - Intentional quitting ruins the game. I admit it, i’ve quit lots of times because of 1 sided matches or bad RNG caused the team to be in a tough spot. And it’s just as bad when you are alone on the team because everyone else intentionally quit. - I’d rather not wait 10 minutes per quit in between matches. And if one of the players from the match cares to, they can report you for quitting early. Not only on your profile but also on the support site. I was checking my GameDVR recently and i found lots of evidence for quitters in a couple of days. But i didn’t feel like wasting hours filling out 50+ reports, so i abandoned it.
  • When i’m filing Xbox Reports, half the reports i do for that day show the quitter playing a different game/app,Sorry OP, but your topic is basically reinforcing the behavior of these quitters as if it’s the standard to do in games.

I agree with OP. Quit if its not fun. Hopefully it gets better but there is 0 reason to play a game if its not enjoyable or fun. Dont waste your time or the time of your teammates. If you are not having fun you are not a benefit to your team, whatever the reason.

Blaming people who quit a game because it is currently not fun is ridiculous. If the game had no issues and were fun there would be no need to quit.

I do quit games at times. Currently I quit about 1 out of 9 matches in H3 BTB and 1 out of 5 matches in grifball. I am a happy gamer playing matches when the game and players are behaving normally. So most of the time I do not need to quit.

If your reports are successful in hurting players xbox live records and matchmaking over all, all you are going to do is let it be clear to people not to ever play MCC.

Unfortunately quitting in MCC is going to always be a problem as long as the matchmaking is as bad as it is. In a match where I am being spawn camped on an objective mode and they are just running the timer on kills? I’m gonna quit. I’d easily wait 3 minutes to find another match then spend 10+ minutes being farmed. Not under any circumstance is that ok to “stick it out”.

Quitting just because you are losing is not ok. But there is a point where you are practically not playing anymore because of how bad it can get. Lack of actual ranked modes, no party matching, and (while not frequent) modders from PC all make for very valid reasons to quit.

Players should not have to pay so heavily for poor matchmaking. If players actually start getting repurcusions from quitting in MCC to other games then MCC is going to get blacklisted fast.

I 100% agree with Jonny that a player getting punished in MCC for quitting in other games is overkill and will just hurt MCC and Halo’s reputation.
Hiding in a 1vX match I would argue actually is worse for both teams. I once played a Halo 3 competitive duos game where it was a 1v2, my teammate quit due to us being destroyed, one opponent in the in-game chat said to please leave I stayed but after that just went to mid after every death to end the game quicker and because I didn’t want the temp ban.

Hiding in that situation would just make 3 players unhappy and I would seem like a coward for not trying to face them just to maintain some K/D. Quitting is always a better option in that scenario because everyone saves some time, we knew I was going to lose, they didn’t want to farm me which was pretty cool of them and my already bad K/D is maintained a little.

Hiding isn’t finishing with honor in my opinion. Hiding just frustrates a winning team who wants to move on or worse causes them to quit giving you a false victory. If you really don’t want to quit just keep throwing yourself at the enemy team Noble 6 lone wolf style and set a personal history goal for that game.

If half your team leaves the other half can quit and get no ban if you didn’t know.

I was once in a 4v1. My team quit out on me. Once i spawned, i would move slowly to not show up on radar and hide out of sight. The enemies didn’t pressure me to quit. Instead, they screwed around with each other. Final score? 19 to -9. Guess who had -9. The enemy team. Doesn’t seem like they were frustrated because they didn’t think to look all over the map and i wasn’t going to give them an easy victory. I’m not worried about my KD when hiding. I’m worried about doing a 1v4 and getting owned without taking anyone out per life. So yes, i’d rather be a coward then do a last stand. And if the enemies were really annoyed, they could of just quit out also, wait out the timer and found another match.

I can’t help it players get enraged with the match that they have to quit out of MCC and play whatever else is on the console. Tell 343 to get their act together. I know social is supposed to be fun and all, but the lack of being paired up with a decent team is what i don’t hold my teammates to. I hold them to playing the entire match (moving around, getting kills, shooting when they see an enemy) instead of the fake afk’s who get rewarded for doing nothing.

As i said, i report every quitter on Xbox. But i don’t do it on 343’s support site as often. I once had 15 reports i could of make, but that, to me, felt like it would take forever. I’m all for harsher punishments if it teaches them that quitting isn’t ok and that’s where 343 is too kind to the quitters. The temp ban is too light and they probably just quit match after match after match.

Matchmaking has a decent size wound. But 343 thinks that they can put on tiny band-aid’s and it’s healed.

If its you one person vs 4 players, meaning 3 teammates quit there is no ban waiting for you if you quit. The bans only apply to the first 50 percent of the team that quits out, so if you are in Big team and you have 4 kids on your team quit you can do so knowing you won’t be penalized .

This whole topic sounds like a symptom to the overall problem…the infrastructure of the MCC: the game ITSELF. With a better and more robust matchmaking system that works as well for ranked as it does for social games, the MCC would be gold. How is it that Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and even Halo 4 have better matchmaking on the Xbox 360???

People are quitting because of the inherent PROBLEMS with the MCC. It is of no fault of their own OR their opponents. These are simply the cards we are dealt with; and until things are fixed and are truer to the original form of these legendary titles, NOTHING will change.

Let’s not encourage bad behavior.
