Don’t call something that should’ve been fixed 4 months ago an update, that would be a patch.
If battlefield 2042 wasn’t a “AAA” game, Halo infinite would by far be the worst “AAA” game ever released.

I remember when bungie started the trend of calling patches “title updates” and I was floored back then about it. If only I would have known how low this franchise would sink back then.

I am in agreement with this. The only thing that seems to be getting updates is the store, which is certainly telling of where the priorities might be.
Having played older games, I got spoiled by the huge difference between an update and a patch. It’s got pretty subjective at this point in gaming.

I don’t call my car a car, because it’s obviously an automobile.
I’m not defending 343, but a patch is an update. There is no definition of update that has a particular threshold of content or requires new content to be considered an update.
Back then patching a Console title wasn’t all that mainstream so they probably coined a term which was the best they could describe it I imagine.
Updates introduce new content.
Patches fix bugs.

Only when you’re arbitrarily giving things definitions they don’t have.
There is no definition of update that doesn’t preclude it from fixing bugs. And similarly a patch isn’t just limited to bug fixes.
WoW just put out patch 9.2.0 which is a major content drop. Splitgate’s latest patch added a whole seasonal event.
Windows updates happen all the time and they just fix issues with the OS and don’t usually add new features.

An update is a patch. A patch is an update. They’re the same thing and the naming is totally arbitrary.
