So I’ve heard the Quit Ban is back, eh? And it’s for a whole hour?
Someone explain to me why a quit ban makes sense in Halo 4. Please. Do it. I don’t understand.
343i tried to hard to make their Join in Progress system work - and I’ll admit when I played last week it was working much better than in November - but why would they add a quit ban?
In my opinion, adding the quit ban admits defeat - 343i has admitted that their Join in Progress feature doesn’t work very well.
I try not to quit games. I rarely quit games in Halo 3 and Reach. In Halo 4, however, I find myself not thinking twice about it, simply because I expect Join in Progress to back me up (though, deep down I know it probably won’t, and I like taking every opportunity to shove something in 343i’s face). I quit out of games where I join halfway through. I also quit games where my teammates make it impossible to even have a chance of winning.
It’s a simple if/then structure:
If there is a working join in progress feature, then there should be no quit ban, because join in progress will fix the holes in each team as they appear.
Someone argue in favor of a quit ban to me. Please. I’m eager to hear how someone can actually support one when there is a JiP feature already.
P.S. I supported the quit ban in Reach because it was a short time period and there was no JiP.
You can’t have both. MAYBE in the title update 343 plans to take JIP out of matchmaking. You heard it here first, JIP will be taken out once the TU is set in place.
JIP only encourages people to quit more. It took me 3 years to quit/lag out of 288 matches in halo 3. It only took me 2 months to quit/ lag out of 172 matches in halo 4.
i kinda like having both because is discourages people from quitting over anything while not punishing everyone else if someone does need to quit. having both would only be a problem if you’re quitting a good number of game, and although its not as bad as it use to be it is slightly annoying having people quit all the time. so yea i think its fair and is a good way of handling it.
Why stop at 60 minutes? Why not just increase the ban to a full 24 hours? Go ahead 343 I dare you. Make another bonehead decision without notifying the community beforehand. At least in reach we got monthly updates for how we wanted playlists and maps changed. We also got our weekly bullitins too. In halo 4 I swear to god it feels like we’re talking to a brick wall.
The point is to discourage quitting and to fix the effects of quitting.
In Reach, you would have BTBattles of 8v1 due to everyone dropping out after the opposing team gets the lead.
With the Ban, it is a deincentive to quit habitually, more than once in a short amount of time.
JIP improves the games where many people quit, for example an 8v3. WIth JIP the game can go back to an 8v8. This is better than what we had in Reach where games were so slow and uneven.
If you have a problem with this, two things:
Don’t quit. Finish your matches, and be a good teammate. No ban will occur.
If you don’t like joining a game mid-way, just finish the match and stay with the party, a new game will start (with voting and everything). This is much more efficient for you and everyone.
If you want to blame someone. Blame people like me. People who finish their games and rarely quit and asked 343i to do something to quitters and to fix the problems they cause.
Don’t forget about those who get kicked because the game chooses the crapiest host with a RadioShack connection. Host should be selected by best bandwidth and lowest packet loss. I tested this with friends that live next door. I have 50mbs down and 13mbs up. All my other friends have the same broadband service except for one who has crappy DSL. He got host EVERY game. I would like to know how host is actually selected. Seems bogus. Players are going to get banned for this reason. It’s not their fault. Why should I be punished because a broken game chose the person with the worst connection to host a game.

Only the quit ban is going to do exactly what it did in Reach: cause the number of AFKs to skyrocket. If AFKing gets you banned as well, then the people that would quit will result to something else. Betraying to get booted, running in circles or doing something else to not contribute to the match.
It’s like socialism. Sounds good on paper, but is terrible in practice.

AFKers can get banned too.
Either way, it is significantly rarer to have a 8v1 now, compared to reach. I don’t like them either, but the difference between our views is that you, a quitter/ anyone who thinks that quitters shouldn’t get a penalty, are just as guilty for ruining games as AFKers!
Quitters and AFKers both ruin the experience. You both are in the same lot.
JIP fills teams back up. I’m happy for that. I think it was a good solution. I’m glad that quitters get a penalty. AFKers should too.
You are allowed to quit, feel free too, just don’t expect that you get away with that behavior without some penalty.
With a messed up JIP system and lag issue across the board a quit ban is really just punishing people for poor game design. Oh you want to quit because everyone is rubber banding and you have been sent to the black screen 5 times in 1 minute, too bad BAN. That is BS.

Sounds like it is your connection. If you are having problems that frequently. If you have it once in every 10 matches, there is no problem. You can quit and you won’t be banned.
I recommend checking your internet connection if you have to quit enough to get banned, all due to lag.
This is not an issue for the average player. By any means.

Yep. Nothing lowers the quality of gameplay more than quitters.
It is particularly necessary to discourage habitual quitters. There are plenty of players that simply refuse to play any gametype or map they don’t like. The quit ban greatly reduces the number of players who quit before the match begins.
really? this is a thing again? have we learned nothing? did people actually THINK REACH WAS A WELL BUILT GAME?
i honestly don’t get the griping about JiP, if you join late, use ordinance priority to give yourself that extra boost or edge late, try to make an impact instead of giving up when you see a lopsided score, use the time to try something new, honestly players these days, i’m sure in halo 5 if we don’t start with a 5 kill head start people will be unhappy.
quit ban only encourages people to just stop playing all together, it did it to me in reach and i played halo 3 religiously for 3 and a half years, starting a full year after launch.
what benefit is there in forcing people to stop playing a game they BOUGHT because they are not enjoying something they OWN FOR ENJOYMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT?
i’ve said it in almost every post i’ve made here, i cant’ believe i feel the need to;
reach was broken and the mechanics were painful, why are we looking back to it for advice?

How can it be my connection if we get sent to black screen over and over and it picks new hosts? Also please tell me how it’s my fault if I get placed into a game where everyone is from across the planet. No region filters also make quit ban idiotic. Also did you miss the part about JIP being broken as hell? Please tell me how you know the opinions or the average player as well? Do you work at MS in data analysis?
When you quit, you are ruining the experience for other people. Whether those people were on your team or the opposing team is irrelevant. Even if you are getting dominated up the rump, it is still ruining the experience for those players that are winning.
The best thing to do when you are losing really badly and want to quit is to just hide someplace where you won’t get killed. That way you won’t have to keep getting humiliated.
I’ve done that before on Reach in BTB. My team was worse than awful, but I didn’t want to quit. I just hid in my team’s base and the let the clock run. I went embarrassingly negative, so that’s why.
What about in the instances where I join a game and the score is 645-80, I’m not wasting five minutes for that game to end. That ruins my experience. Now they put in a quit ban; good Ill quit playing your game and not purchase your DLC, happy now?

Oh. Okay. I guess not then. You just happen to be the most unlucky person on earth then. Or you’re exaggerating on how often you enter a lagfest.
JIP isn’t broken, it could be improved, but it’s not broken. It does what it is suppose too.
I doubt the average player quits as much as you due to reasons of lag. I could be wrong, if so, I’m not noticing it luckily. That is thankfully due to them being replaced due to JIP.
