Quick Wins: A Few Ideas for 343

The way that 343 has approached developing this game thus far is to carefully plan out each new feature that was added and iterate them into multiple well polished versions. This concept of maximizing content has produced for 343 what I’m going to be calling quick wins. These can be seen with the developed process of maps and their remixes and most recently with fiesta slayer and the well thought out ball gametype. These quick wins were designed with thought and intention to cover as much ground as possible by reusing assets already developed for one game mode or map in a totally new one by the flick of a switch in custom games.

What I propose are some more quick wins that 343 can eek out of the assets they have already deployed.

One Flag:
Most of the assets needed are already in the game: flag for one specific team, multiple rounds, overtime, round over announcements, etc.

Hot Potato:
A setting to cause oddball or ball to explode at random or preset intervals.

Multi Ball Game modes:
Multi ball game modes can include multi bomb assault, oddballs where each ball provides different powerups.

Pickup up of multiple balls at a time could allow for a headhunter to be created out of the new ball gametype.

New scoring options could open up the creation of this gametype. Options like ending the game when a preset number of balls have been delivered all at once before the normal score limit was reached, no explosion upon ball delivery, etc.

Warzone Flag:
This is one is the same as reusing flag assets to create a brand new game mode. Make flag spawn in each base’s outer tunnel and be delivered to the opposing team’s core room. AI mechanics could involve the AI reacting to the flag being stolen.

Edit: It also needs to be mentioned that by default all playlists should have the setting from Halo 3 that causes parties searching with 50% of members for a full team or less to be matched against similar parties of %50 or less. This would make solo players match against groups of 2 or less in 4v4 playlists. The inverse should also be true. Parties with more than 50% should be much more likely to be matched against similar parties with more than 50%. This would result in match ups of 4v4, 4v3+1, 4v2+2 and 2+2v2+2 when searching in teams of more than 50%. This would be a quick win for players bexcuse 343 would be providing a much better experience for the quality of life of all gamers; for those who solo queue as well as providing more even matches for those who search in teams.

I like your thinking, OP. I’d also like to see One Flag arrive on the scene, but it would likely need some Forge maps added to really be successful. Also hope they add Oddball with the Assault custom options (I’m actually surprised they didn’t mention it in the last update).

Another idea is to have game variants maybe add in Classic Slayer BRs to all slayer playlists with like a 30% weighting.

yea really. do you have to hold it flat and lay it down in your arms? lol. but warzone gametypes like a big CTF or something like that in warzone would be kinda cool…just not this need two people to hold the flag
