I sincerely apologize if this is a waste of forum space, but I didn’t really know who to PM about this.
I love Halo, I love how each and every one of the games (including Halo Wars) feels when I play them, they feel like nothing I’ve ever experienced before and that’s just awesome!
Other than greatly loving these amazing games, I have become very intrigued in the vast Universe that has been created along with them. As far as Science Fiction goes, there are few stories that stretch further than what has been created in and out of these games.
My question is, do I need to read every one of the books pertaining to this universe to understand it as many of you Halo geniuses do? I have read Contact Harvest, Halo: The Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, Halo: First Strike and Halo: Ghosts of Onyx (this one is a near blur for me, I may have been too young to really understand what I was reading), but have never gotten around to any of the other novels.
I know it’s a simple question, but I’d greatly appreciate a response or even some time to bring me up to speed on things I may not know about.
I wish you all a great day or night wherever you may be, and happy Halo hunting in your future!
Yes!
If I were you, and you REALLY want to dive into the lore that Halo has (thanks to Bungie and 343i’s incredible writing over the years!), than I HIGHLY recommend reading all of the books. I just finished Halo: Silentenium, the third book of the Forerunner Trilogy and my 13th Halo novel, but I personally think the first five novels written are amongst the most integral to understanding the first half of the Halo lore (of which you seem to have already done!).
The next book(s) I would say to read, despite the people in these forums that hate them (I liked them a lot) is the Kilo-V Trilogy by Karen Traviss, author of the Star Wars: Republic Commando 5 book series, and the collection of stories written by several authors (forgot the title of it). While I LOVE those five RC books, Traviss writes some pretty good stories in Kilo V, but she kinda goes down a road that many fans didnt like regarding other charaters’ thoughts on Dr. Halsey.
And this is the right forum to ask this question, so you are fine!

Thank you very much! I think I will start on the Forerunner saga first as it delves into the part of the Universe I know the least about, but the Kilo-5 saga will definitely be on my next to read list.
Aside from what HD said, New Blood and Hunters in the Dark will help you with some Halo 5 stuff, and even will have characters from other games. Broken Circle is really good too.
And this month another Halo book is coming out (digitally only) for 1$.
If you are lacking time to read the books I would go to Halopedia and read the plot of the books at least but yes read the books the stories just s seem like your playing the game and you can picture it, or at least for me it does.
If your missing Johnson or want to see how the lie of the great journey started and the beginning of the war read Contract Harvest, If your missing Jacob Keyes and want to read about some new Spartans read Cole Protocol. Really you can’t go wrong with any book.
I would suggest if you want to catch up before Halo 5 comes out, Hunters in the Dark and then the Forerunner Saga bc that might pertain to Halo 5 more then the Kilo 5 trilogy (the first 2 books in the series pertain to the civil war going on between the Elites, which I’m assuming you will see the end of in Halo 5 so I would read those books also)
