Why are you forcing Oddball on us? I would say that making oddball have multiple rounds to win was the worst thing that could have been done but I would be wrong. This combined with forcing people to play it is the real kick in the teeth.
Why would social not have a match composer that was in MCC. Match composer was great.
Now you have a even bigger population on a brand new game and you force people to play 1 single playlist for social arena?
I hope this is only a beta arrangement. I played probably about 20 games today and of those I think maybe 2 were slayer.
This game desperately needs playlists for specific game modes, it’s puzzling why this wasn’t a thing at launch given some challenges require you to play a certain mode & spamming quickplay hoping to get that mode is not an enjoyable experience.
I have to say I’m not a fan of choosing the game modes as it kills variety for those of us that search everything. You only get the most popular variants constantly.
But this is why match composer was great. Not only were you able to hone into game types that might be a bit more niche… ie fiesta slayer, swat, team snipers. But you got to select a whole bunch of different game types to make it have a variety… Best of all I never had to play oddball or king of the hill.
Playing non stop swat can get tedious… but having the occasional swat in the mix was enjoyable to me.
If there was one thing I would put on my wish list further was the ability to play across both arena and big team. Ie not have to choose to play one or the other but add them into the mix.
I found some options basically became locked out and you’d be searching for indefinite periods because not enough users were searching with those settings at a preferable player skill. Then it becomes like that doesn’t exist in the playlist, so you don’t get the variety.
Another key issue is by having to search for Oddball only, the player pool may be significantly reduced for instance and then I am not getting the best connection or skill matching for the game. This way games will have better balance and less lag.
Also forcing the variety is less interesting tbh. Do I search for Oddball for 1 game, then Strongholds, then CTF. You always know what you’re getting then. Part if the fun is having a few games you are less excited about (in my case slayer) then getting a good game of CTF finally and it feels much better when your favourite does show.
Would this divide the player base though? Part of what has turned me off numerous FPS games in the past is that there is insufficient multiplayer population in my region. We already have BTB, Quick Play, Ranked and Custom, and I’ve read on these forums that players in my region are simply organising custom games via 3rd party means, rather than playing matchmaking.
Fair enough. I guess I enjoy almost all except for the asset denial game types. So match composer works for me.
After my 3rd game straight of oddball my finger is hovering over that quit button. Bans come as they may.
Regardless of if match composer is added or not, additional playlists will come. I’d prefer that matchcomposer was an option over my never wanting to play objective at all for fear of playing koth and oddball. that’s the real way those playlists die. I’d rather be able to just add CTF and whatever other objective types I find interesting without suffering through those ones.
Match composer saved MCC for me. I live in Australia and I struggled to find matches in most playlists except slayer until this option was added.
Additionally making people play games they don’t want to is I’m sure the begining of team killing and players jumping off the map.
Probably related to what I was saying about skill matching. The top Aussie players will have to play against rest of world. Even in UK I predominantly have to paly against Americans because of my rank.
I wasn’t aware that SBMM was a big issue in social. I have roughly a 2.0 kd in MCC and never had issues with match composer.
I did in Halo 5 though… part of the reason I stopped playing halo 5. aussie servers died in Halo 5… even for slayer. You had to play the weekend double xp rotating playlist to get a aussie connection.
Nah the main issue is that the game matches roughly based on skill, so if you are say hidden level 50, it might allow you to play with hidden 30s which is very easy game for you still, but if there aren’t any people searching in that level for you it either needs to extend the skill gap even further or look for another region. So you could end up playing against completely inexperienced players or against someone the other side of the world on their server. Neither outcome is preferable for anyone.
Ultimately by funneling players into a smaller playlist grouping, they can ensure games for more people are better matched, on a more consistent basis. Social also balances by team not player so you also get a lot of games where it is one very good player and three not so good players Vs 4 average players.
So far enjoying the variety in quick play. Also for learning my way around the maps (f.e. Strongholds really helps learning rotational routes and weapon locations for me). Although I can understand some objective gametypes can be frustrating when solo queuing.
I have no doubt that on December 8th we’ll have a more composed set up of playlists and quick match will probably be slayer only.
Problem is. I don’t really want slayer only. I want to be able to choose multiple playlists / gametypes in my search.
I hope they don’t kill social like the did in halo 5 with strict SBMM and garbage play list options.
