Quick note on the aim assist

As a long time competitive Halo player since the early days of CE. I think the aim assist and the over all feel of the controller is in a great spot. Yes, its harder to aim, stop calling for more aim assist and try practicing first. It took me awhile to get used to it as well. I haven’t played a competitive shooter in a long time and trained with the weapons a couple hours in the drills and in training. Aim is fine now, aim assist does not need to be increased to old halos.

I also think is really funny. Kb/m players saying too much aim assist, controller players saying not enough aim assist. Probably means that the aim assist is in a perfect spot.

Try to remain objective guys when you are evaluating the game/giving feedback. This game was not just built for you. Try to get used to the game first and understand it. Then provide feedback.

My only problem with the aim assist right now is that I personally don’t like it. It may not be ‘stronger’ than other Halo games, but it does feel like it is, it’s just not very subtle. For me, I just want an option to turn it off, or at least tone it down. It blows my mind that there isn’t an option for that already. I never like aim assist in games, if it’s unnoticable then fine, but Infinite’s sticks out like a sore thumb to me.

This game was built for Halo fans, no? Maybe it should feel like other Halo games then. The aim assist is so low it feels like trying to shoot your teammates in previous Halos.

Say “practice, git gud” etc all you want, this game is going to die on the vine if it releases like this because people want it to feel like Halo right out of the gate and if it doesn’t they will drop off. This flight is 10x the size of the last one and all you see is the forums and reddit flooding with “aiming in this feels bad”, or “why can’t I hit anything”. If they don’t fix it, controller players will drop off and you’ll have a dead game.

My issue with it is that its far and away the most difficult Halo game to dial in. I can’t tell what’s wrong and I’ve done different mixups of look speeds, deadzone and acceleration. The closest I could get was 2.5 speed, 0 deadzone, and 2 acceleration… For my personal settings. I had one variation that was 1 speed 0 dz and 5 acceleration.

Just for fun, I played all the Halo games on MCC and Halo 5. Within 30 seconds of each game, I landed all my shots.

But Infinite feels like I’m a toddler playing hockey with the reticle. This is after 3 hours of a bot match and 2 in MM.

I’m getting old but I dominate or at least come out on top of my fair share (most) games. So, idk, but there’s something funky going on and it might not be AA… But there’s certainly something not right.

This halo has kb/m players. The aim assist cannot be the same as previous halos. You are kidding yourself if you think there are gonna be more console players than kb/m players interested in the game. Also, the forums are not a good judge of of the overall sentiment. People who are bad and cant aim and don’t like the aim assist are more likely to complain on the forums. The people who aren’t entitled and actually put in the work are more likely not to go on a forum and say the aim assist is fine. Also yes exactly “practice, git gud”.

Something I noticed and mentioned in another thread is that the aim assist only “assists” your own personal strafe and doesn’t track the opponents stafe at all. I think this may be why it feels so off.

If it’s been a while for you, then understand that both platforms have been whittling down their respective “feels” for a while now. It’s like playing semi-pro basketball for years on earth, and you have people from another planet with 1.5x earth’s gravity…and then moving them all to a third planet with 1.2x earth’s gravity to play. And expecting them all to be cool with it. Especially if the move was done simply to force everyone to play in the same world in order to keep thing’s “fair.” It’s gonna feel weird and be kinda frustrating.

So I’d be careful with that. Controller and mouse/keyboard are very different inputs. If you try and just go for the “mathematical middle ground” between both, you may end up failing at doing either justice, and irking everyone in the process.

Aim assist needs to be turned up. It’s been dialed back since Reach.

I don’t know if it’ll be dead on the vine, but I do agree with the rest. The only weapons I feel like absolutely no aim assist, though, is the pistol (which is garbage unless you’re a mnk player…they seem to be dead on with zero kick everytime), the spike launcher (unless I’m aiming center mass, I won’t hit the target…if I aim at the head, 90% chance it’ll fly over or to the left of the head) and the sniper rifle (same as the pistol issue). But those are my two cents and opinion!

As a controller-prefered player on PC, this is where I am at. The majority of my Halo multiplayer experience comes from Halo 3 and Reach, and years of coop sessions in CE->ODST. This game is much faster than those, and controller just feels too sluggish to keep up with MWK, let alone base player movement. When I played yesterday, I could only tolerate playing on controller for about an hour before I switched to MWK for the remainder of the available multiplayer play periods. MWK feels good, though, I had a blast during that time.

That said, I don’t want them to slow the game down. I think they’re close to a balance between improving upon/evolving the general feel of the game while still feeling “like a Halo game” (I think the shield mechanics and weapon interplay have a lot to do with this, plus the equipment).

what? you think there are more kb/m players than controller? wtf are you smoking?

I agree, though I think the aim sensitivity options are pretty daunting right now and it’s really hard to find something that feels “perfect” so Id like that addressed. Having a unified sensitivity option that disables all the zoom bars and ties them directly to the main sensitivity bar like past games would be really nice, then once you have the right base sensitivity you can disable it for “fine tuning” the individual ones.
