I really wanted to join up to play H3 yesterday but for family reason (i’m 32 and we welcomed our second daughter 8 days ago so no time to play anything right now…) I wasn’t able to join. I Like those initiatives and always try to participate. I remember (sadly) the last day of H2 before they turned off the servers. I played H2 that evening and had a lot of fun. I was looking for 7-7 to go back on H3 to see how the population would be and if matches were easily found.
SO, to people who played, how was it? Was the population big? Did the PR job work? And if you’re someone you just went back to play a couple of games, how did it go/feel? Did you get owned by players who never left H3? Did the controls feel odd?
Once I have 2-3 free ahead (both little ladies sleeping…) I’ll put my ODST MM disc in and try H3 again. I liked Reach and still like H4 but my best gaming memories are, by far, with Halo 3.
I played yesterday and although the population isn’t huge it is a hell of a lot of fun and in Social Slayer and big Team I don’t have any trouble finding games but with other gametypes it might take awhile. To me its a hell of a lot of fun and I’ve decided that I’m going to continue playing. In my opinion it is infinitely better than Halo 4 or Reach or any other game out recently and I really hope 343 looks into Halo 3 and 2 and builds off of those games for Xbox One rather than Halo 4 and Reach. There are cool things they added to Reach and Halo 4 of course, but Halo 3 is so much better. I would definitely recommend getting anyone you can to come back to it.
I played some matches and it felt like it always has.
I found it a bit faster to find a match in Big Team, though.
That game is a hell of a lot of fun!
I had no issues finding matches in Social Slayer or BTB. I played literally 3 hours of Halo 3. So much fun.
I didn’t even know it was a repopulate day because almost every weekend I play Halo 3. I could care less about some broken population counter. I don’t even look at it, I just hop in a playlist and wait for a match. I did notice a ton of parties (many full team of 50’s) though.
I started playing Halo 3 on Midnight 2007 release and will continue to do so.
I finally had some time to hop in and play 3-4 games yesterday and had no problem finding games in Social Slayer. I mean, it was taking like 30 seconds to find all 10 players and the match would start. What struck me the most was how fast the games actually started once all players were found. It’s way faster than H4. 343i need to do something about that with their matchmaking in H5. Probably the XB1 new matchmaking system (advertised) will help in this regard.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun in these games but it kinda felt too basic. I mean, after playing Reach and H4, it seems like it’s lacking the new stuff Bungie and 343i added in Reach and H4. I was always looking to sprint to find the fights faster…hehe, I still enjoyed myself but I think I’ll switch back to H4.
Yea I just never stopped playing H3 haha if they did some really small tweaks like map probability, took out some less populated playlists and brought back double exp playlists maybe once a month, and kept tracking stats (less important). H3 could be game of the year again hahaha no but seriously no game since h3 has been able to produce how competetive and fun its gameplay is. ranked,social,customs,forge…what people did with this game was unreal, H3 forever.

I play in the middle of the night and still find games in multi team and social slayer. Rumble pit takes like 10 minutes sometimes so I quit playing it.
I didn’t know it was a special day to play, but my son and I played for a couple of hours that day. We both still play Halo 3. Never have a lot of trouble finding matches in social slayer or rumble pit. Ranked TS is harder to match because our skill is 20 apart or so.
Still my favorite Halo game after all these years…
