I just watched a capture the flag game play on you tube. It looks like there is only 4 people on each team? Why? What hapend to 8 vs. 8? Is there no 8 vs. 8 capture the flag games?

Yes, Big Team Battle is 12 Vs 12.
Capture the flag can also be played in social arena 4 Vs 4.
A side note; I just found out there will be no forge on the release date. That’s a bummer. Now if and when forge does come out with there be any dedicated server software to run you custom maps or will there be like in Halo MCC that uses a Custom game browser? That outa do it for the questions.
