Questions about Halo 5 Please *CONTAINS SPOILERS*

First and foremost, I’m sorry if this has been asked 100 times already. Make this 101 I guess. Pardon my ignorance.

I, like many others, didn’t really care for the Halo 5 campaign. I played the Master Chief Collection straight through prior to playing Halo 5, and 1-3 storylines seem to transition quite smoothly. Everything fits. Then there’s Halo 4, which was a little different. I could feel a change in direction in the story, the approach, the style of storytelling, etc. But, I think Halo 4 was still really good. It sort of felt like a “generation 2” take on the franchise.

But Halo 5… I feel like it was just a mess. The story was weak and the plot seemed “off”. I loved the personal struggle of Chief that was highlighted throughout the story. It reminded me of how the intro of Halo 4 has Halsey talking about how spartans aren’t just “machines” and Halo 5 showed the relationship that Chief formed with Cortana. But, then he had his “bros” on his fireteam whom he knew from childhood, which sort of took away from the emphasis on the Chief/Cortana relationship.

Locke was just plain terrible, I don’t think anyone would argue that. The best part thing about Osiris was Buck. His comments were priceless.

Enough rambling and onto my questions, because I have no idea how to piece this together:

  1. At the beginning of the game, we so Halsey tending to Cortana. Or was she creating her? She looked so terribly old, I’m led to believe it’s a second Cortana? I don’t recall her looking like a senior citizen before and even in Halo 4 she wasn’t as aged.

  2. How did the prometians “evolve” over such a short period of time? They have different bodies, they talk, they drive. I don’t get it. They’re an ancient race. Maybe it was due to their initial contact with humans and they somehow evolved quickly?

  3. How did Cortana survive the end of Halo 4? She said the Didact’s ship went into hyperspace or some foolishness when Chief’s nuke went off. But at the end of Halo 4, we see him floating in the ship’s debris.

  4. Where it the world was Warden Eternal in Halo 4? If he’s an ancient creature, how come he was extremely intelligent and in halo 4, the prometians are really made out to look as they were just nomadic humans turned into machines. I still can’t get over them driving a warthog.

  5. What was Halsey doing with the covenant? I assume it’s in a book? And I assume they explain why her arm is missing a la Luke Skywalker?

  6. So grunts didn’t talk in Halo 4 but they do again in Halo 5. I think that was just a poor design choice on 343’s behalf in Halo 4 but I could be wrong.

By the way, Locke holding his own fighting Chief was just dumb. The dude can ride bombs through outer space. I think in a novel he even changed the trajectory of a missle by punching it - and here his martial arts is on par with Locke? Please… Just typing this and thinking about this all over again makes me sad. I LOVE the Halo universe, and 5 just seemed like they turned the story over to some interns that came in hot off of working on their college newspaper.

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any clarification on the above questions.

  1. Flashback to Halo Reach before Noble 6 picks up Cortana and delivers her to the Pillar of Autumn
  2. The Prometheans changed due to a lack of Flood presence, before Halo 4 the last things they fought were Flood
  3. The heart of the Mantles approach went through slip space to save itself, Cortana rampant parts were still in the ships systems. Chief was saved because the non rampant Cortana made a Hard light bubble around him.
  4. There was no need for Warden to on Requiem, he was tasked with protecting the Domain and the Guardians. In short the Domain and no Guardians were on Requiem.
  5. Play Halo 4s Spartan ops
  6. Spartan IVs have similar augmentations to the Spartan IIs and Chiefs and Lockes armour are both Gen 2. A Spartan III in SPI armour held off Kelly in Normal Gen 1 armour. Despite your love for Chief the fight fits with all the other Spartan Vs Spartan fights we have seen.

Thanks for the reply! I appreciate the insight!
