Wondering if I’m the only one having these issues or if anyone could recommend settings or just shed some light on this for me:
Setup: Series X, LG CX, quality mode in Halo’s settings, 4k/120hz console settings, tv in pc mode to achieve 4:4:4 chroma/Freesync enabled/instant game response enabled/HDMI deep color enabled. (Note: None of these problems occur on the same setup and settings for other games)
- When I play the game in quality mode with the settings above, on either HDR10 or DV, I get an aggressive screen flickering on darker menus and environments. Am I the only one who has this issue? Any ideas on the cause?
- Note if I switch the game to performance mode it is resolved. Separately, if my console is set to 60hz and game in quality mode, this also resolves the flickering but it does not provide a locked 60 and I still get pretty frequent frame drops, and the overall quality of the image seems to be slightly reduced. (I think the drop in quality has something to do with the Xbox not using the full 40gb pipeline of HDMI 2.1 when it is set to 60hz refresh rate)

Using the settings (1.) the game seems to output at around 118hz refresh rate with frequent and drastic dips to 59.something-hz (checked using freesync info feature on LG CX). My question here is how? Everything I had seen about the stats for this game suggested that it would play at a Locked 60hz in quality mode for series x, so how/why is it not just a locked 60 for me? Is VRR not working correctly in quality mode?

Is Dolby vision broken in this game? I’ve played the game in both HDR10 (dynamic tone mapping set to HiGi) and Dolby vision, when I play it in DV it seems like there is no tone mapping being done at all. The colors are slightly different in DV but the reflections and overall quality and brightness in HDR10 are vastly better, like HDR10 looks like a next gen game better. (Best place to test this is in training mode, I found it easiest to see how vast the differences are in bottom-mid on Behemoth, just stand on and look at the bridge and reflection from the sunlight.)
- Note: I have seen a few reddit posts about the game’s PC build not having any metadata for DV, can’t really speak to knowing anything about that but just figured I’d include it.

Pre-rendered cutscenes in the game have incorrect black level and boot up 343 logo has very aggressive image posterization (this issue may be present in other areas of the game I have not seen yet). The black level one is really weird for me because when watching things with black bars on an OLED, typically those bars are just pixels that are turned off. Yet, for some reason, these cut scenes have lit up black bars and don’t appear to be in HDR or potentially even 4k (I say this because the 4k cutscene for season one of the battlepass on youtube looks significantly better than in the game when my tv is in HDR mode)

Lastly, Has anyone had an issue where in the middle of gameplay your display just turns off or reboots? I had this issue a few times in the second flight and again in the multiplayer beta. Yesterday this happened on 3 separate occasions when playing the campaign.
- I already have a ticket regarding the flickering issue but support doesn’t seem to have a resolution on it yet. Hoping that I can get a better understanding of the causes of these issues so I submit more tickets. or just fix a setting.
@snickerdoodle @Unyshek - is there someone on the support team that can be tagged here?
