Yesterday I noticed that the Gold coating is viewable on all cores in the customization menu.
My Question is as follows; What is the price of one legendary armor coating?
I ask this, because - when this coating undoubtedly comes to the store - if it’s price is higher than the cost of one legendary coating for one core, I think it would be relatively safe to assume that cross core is dead and never coming.
That or 343 is cool aggressively ripping people off and charging - presumably - 5 times the price of one legendary coating. Then in a future update, making cross core a thing to rub salt in everyone’s wounds. Not too sure I’d necessarily put this past them.
I’m also looking out for when we will be able to use items unlocked via kits in non-restrictive ways (i.e. reach kit shoulders, lone wolves - Dihn’s coating, HCS coatings, etc). I think it’s important to keep track of this stuff, because charging people twice for the same thing they already own - and to do so in a deceptive manner - is completely abhorrent
You would have to be incredibly naive to think that 343 will sell a coating that can be applied to all cores for the price of a single coating on a single core.
I’m not saying you are, I’m saying the community as a whole though.
343 is using Halo Infinite as a Chas machine, it’s clear they have absolutely no intent on making a fun game for the fanbase. Their only target is to drain as much money from people as possible so that when the day comes where 343 is dissolved and the Halo IP is truly dead, Microsoft will have made some money from it for something else.
We’re never getting the ‘old’ Halo’s back. Infinite is Halo’s last stand and considering how catastrophically bad the launch and subsequent support has been since launch (SEVEN MONTHS AGO) has been, I don’t have any faith in 343 whatsoever.
Depends on how they want to sell it. Lots of the imagery for store sets have been somewhat inaccurate since the earliest of XP reworks because of the way some were leaked ahead of whatever event they were for, resulting in items that were clearly made to be sold together get singular listings.
For instance when they sold the estate gold coating on its own for 600 and separated it from a stance that it was originally leaked with, that stance eventually became a weekly challenge reward.
However, Vermillion Flame ( the Gold & Red coating for all season 1 cores) was first sold for 2000 before the end of 2021 and has since shown up as 1200 on sale. This bundle also came with emblems and 3 gun coatings (BR, shotgun, Sniper)
Seeing this Halcyon Days coating pop up just seems like its part of the same marketing idea for seasonal offerings. Make a shiny (if not gold) coating for ALL current & present spartan cores and allow anyone to attain it by making it a button in the shop. Time that with a LTM event or something seasonal and boom, you got customers. The HCS giveaway coating is a good free example of this since its STILL THERE and is only for Mk.VII, Mk.V[B] & Yoroi.
If they ever do open up spartan customization more, i bet it’ll be more about mix and matching limbs onto a torso/chest/core and repainting the limbs by independently selecting the coating. Action figure/Miniature type stuff.
We’ve seen them sell coatings like this before that applied to every core in the game (at the time). Can’t remember what it’s called, but the Iron Man metallic red/gold number was sold in a bundle that came with a version of it for each S1 core (Mk V [B], Mk VII, Yoroi). It looks like this is how they’re approaching the upcoming gaudy gold coating, too, as far as I can tell.
I wouldn’t call this hard deconfirmation that 343 has abandoned cross-core coatings, but it is a bad sign. At this point, since we haven’t heard otherwise explicitly, I think we should still take Jerry Hook’s word during the community stream for the S2 launch and assume that 343 is planning on dissolving core restrictions where possible, over time. On that assumption, I think the gold coating we’re seeing is going to be sold in a bundle for all cores because the core restrictions haven’t been lifted yet, but that at some point going forward the coating system will become ubiquitous across all cores.
That’s just because 343 basically made a promise that they were going to begin to remove core locked cores and visors (via Jerry’s word in the community stream). It’s all-too possible that they’ve gone back on their word and are no longer planning to remove these restrictions, but until we hear official word one way or the other, I am choosing to believe that this is a feature that’s just been delayed with so many others.
If and when 343 comes out and announces that core restrictions aren’t going away, or that they’re only sorta going away, that’s when we should all piledrive the point home to them that we don’t appreciate being lied to.
This is kind of the point I’m trying to make and look I’m happy to give 343 the benefit of the doubt. Personally, I don’t believe cross core is ever coming, I think that idea died the moment JH left. However, people seem to be sure that it is still happening.
My thought is, if that’s truly the case then 343 wouldn’t over charge for something which will subsequently be free for 2 reasons. 1 fan and community outrage & 2 - because the last thing we heard from them was that cross core is in the works - most people would view it as a terrible price -assuming they believe them- and lead to few sales.
On a separate note though, I’m beginning to think that once this battle royal mode launches, they will switch to more of a box style product model for Infinite and release the big mode as a separate game similar to warzone/COD. It’s clear the feedback from people has been awful on infinite. Lately I’ve also started see a lot of leniency with all these other games and entities doing stuff with master chief and the Halo IP (i.e. fall guys, among us, hell even the cookbook). I’m beginning to think this is how 343 is trying to make up for losses and asset underperformance on their balance sheet (the asset being Halo Infinite). Every person I know who plays or played Infinite feels/felt that it was monetized poorly, hated that there is no progression system, felt it lacks tons of content, and feels F2P was a bad place to take the franchise in.
Ultimately, they’re more of a corporate venture rather than an indie studio. I don’t believe they would just blindly listen to the fans if they were incredibly profitable despite feedback. I do however believe they pay attention to their bottom line, and - if I had to guess - it’s likely nowhere near where they hoped/expected it to be. Probably even lower than if they had instead launched with a box business model - especially considering a covid launch where gaming -globally- is at an all time high, almost everyone was hype about infinite because it was a return to form, and all of their competition fell flat on their faces, which let to 20 million people trying their game. Continuing to pursue a business model, which likely led to the greatest failure and missed opportunity the franchise has ever and will ever see, would truly be the definition of insanity… but that’s just my view on the situation.
They absolutely won’t listen to fans complaining if they’re happy with their revenue from shop transactions, etc. But I think this game is languishing-the player retention and population are startlingly bad given that we haven’t even had this game for a year yet.
I think 343 will start trying to build some fan goodwill through things like core-unlocking cosmetics to try to inspire a sense of value and that fans are “being heard”- if only to attempt to revitalize these flagging elements and boost player engagement with the game’s monetization. There are specific employees at 343i who genuinely care about this stuff, sure, but overall as a company they’re obviously only interested in the financial viability of their product.
At some point, I think the number of buy-anything “whales” will diminish to the point where 343 will have to take a serious look at building more value into their in-game shop through things like lowering prices and allowing cosmetics to be applied in more versatile ways. Given how much else is wrong with this game, it may be quite some time before they really take a crack at it though.
100% fair, and I half expect that they’ve gone back on it. But he was speaking ostensibly on behalf of 343 when he indicated that these changes were coming, so they should be held to his (their) word.
I’m just saying that since we haven’t heard otherwise, I’m still expecting core unlocks to come. When 343i probably does come out and admit that they’re not coming is when I’ll bear down on them with my ire.
I’m in the exact same boat and I think quoting his exact words is important in that regard. I also think if we can determine the cost of 1 legendary coating (even just a best estimate) we can gauge if 343 will be keeping their word about cross core when the “Gaudy Gold” one appears in the store.
For example, if they dropped a $20 bundle with just the coatings or anything over $7 for that matter, its clear that they are selling them separately and cross core is not happening. However, if they sell all the coatings and bundle it with other crap that we have clear reference pricing for, we should be able to determine if the color being sold is being priced per applied core or just once. If its just once this would essentially prove that cross core is coming. The only sad thing would be -depending on the price- it would come off as a steal because everyone is so used to being ripped off paying for the same color 2-3 times.
Like I said I’m inclined to take them at their word unless shown otherwise, but this will likely paint (no pun intended) a very clear picture for everyone. It would be incredibly scummy for them to slap the coatings alone in a $20 bundle, then months later reiterate that Cross Core is Coming Soon
According to that one stream and other news, it will only be certain attachments, visors, and coatings that will be cross-core. I’m sure at some point they will have a brand new Armor Core or two that will have universal customization but you’re most likely going to have to pay for that. Either through a Battle Pass or the in-game store.
The prices are whatever they feel like. Crimson Serpent was 600CR and had a coating for all guns and a BR attachment. Maltese Mayhem became 800CR with less coatings but 3 attachments. Deepcore Red and Praetorian Zephyr was 800CR for all coatings, but nothing else, not attachment. Yet Strong Iris is 400 CR and includes coatings for all guns and an emblem. Cordovan Thunder was 600CR, but Grullo Orange had less than half of the items but is 500CR. And Tank Rank is the same rarity as Cordovan thunder, but is just the tank, a charm, and an emblem for 400CR. “Rarity” just means they will be more expensive, but there is no consistency as to why they are more expensive or how these prices were made.
Its like they won’t even pretend to price items individually then take a percentage cut to make the bundle. They rather just price the items how they feel like at the time. Or at least get one of the sales team onto a stream to break down how bundles are priced. Maybe even show how these coatings are made if they are so custom. Something so it doesn’t look random every time.
Link should be time-stamped at 51:00 for his exact words surrounding cores, just delete the space
OK, Judging by the recent revisions to price decreases in Halo Inflation’s Shop the cost of legendary color should be $6, so…
Here’s what to look for:
If the bundle is over $6 and only contains the coating = No Cross Core
If the bundle contains the coating for not all cores = No Cross Core
If the bundle is loaded with other garbage and over $6 - Most likely scenario - = Possibly Cross Core (depending on previous prices of other items in the bundle) Armor FX have been around $3, most emblems lately have been bundled and cost $1-2, charms… “who uses charms…?”, stances… I’m unsure…
If the bundle confirms cross core is not happening and people are seen sporting the coating in matches = Probably a shill, or Musk/Bezos type. Message them, and ask for them to buy it for you.
They have an advanced version of the traditional color pallet system we all grew up on and use it to print money… basically. It also allows for certain patterns & textures to be applied to specific parts of each armor. The more colors, textures, and patterns, the higher up on the fictitious rarity scale it goes.
The rarity system - I find - is better defined/known/understood by the community as, “Wow, that color is so rare, only a few select people in the whole world were willing to pay X$ for it”.
Legendary shop offerings spotted in matches are similar to seeing a Bugatti on the highway… It’s rare…
When it comes to the actual item in H:Inflation and its legendary quality, it’d be like if someone slapped a Bugatti logo on a Chevy Spark (google it) and was selling it for Bugatti prices… A few Select people would buy it and ride around in it proudly, I’d even argue, They would beLegendarily Rare.
All jokes aside, Halo Inflation’s Armo…(“Okay now I’m done…”), Infinite’s armor coating system, and customization is by far the most advanced the franchise has ever seen. We just don’t get to see most of it because of monetization. The coating ‘system’ is a really just an awesome tool which is why it’s so sad that we will never be able to use it in-game. The real work for customization is done through creating the armors, there is a lot of really detailed work that goes into creating them so they can be quickly colored using the coating system and still look as intricate as they do.
This is likely also a big reason why cross core customization will take a while to implement, it requires them to create duplicate coatings on every core and re-color them on different tags for each armor core. Additionally some armor sets and pieces probably won’t look right after this is done, this subsequently would require them to manually tweak them until they look right. Already you can probably see how further issues arises when cross core armors get involved in all of this. 343 wouldn’t release any of this to us until it presents in a way they are proud of. In all fairness, it’s likely a lot of work if they decide to actually follow through on their words, but it will likely look awesome when/if it arrives.
Cross core isn’t gonna save Halo Infinite. The game is fundamentally broken thanks to Desync and lingering stability issues.
They need to seriously nuke the game and remake it. The last time the game industry has a broken product like this recover is FF14 getting nuked by Yoshi P and relaunched with ARR. The other times the industry has broken products like this, they’re left broken and abandoned.
Cross Cores, or “Cannon Cores” will have cross customization between only those specific cross cores. Every other core in Infinite will be a Fractures Cores or some other type of Core that does not have cross customization. I imagine even the Battle Royale mode will have it’s own Armor Core as well.
