So, I’m aware that the UNSC has some pretty impressive terraforming capabilities. However, there’s one thing I’m not sure about. Does the terraforming process actually change a planet’s gravity? Harvest is only 1/3 the size of Earth, but its acceleration due to gravity is roughly the same as Earth’s. Likewise, the UNSC has terraformed Mars and Europa, both of which are significantly smaller than Earth. Living in a low-g environment for log periods of time could be detrimental to humans, so do they somehow raise it, as physics-breaky that sounds?
I imagine they can’t change the gravitational force the planet itself [lookin’ at you, Destiny] but any major research installations a la Europa or Ivanoff Station likely have local artificial gravity generators.

Europa is actually fully colonized with numerous legitimate cities. I guess the people just have to work out a lot.
They likely either have localized gravity fields to increase the g’s of a location (see Fall of Reach when John is working out). There’s also the fact that smaller does not always mean it has less mass.

Europa’s acceleration due to gravity is 1.34 m/s, compared to Earth’s 9.81. I guess localized gravity generators are the name of the game.

Right. I wasn’t specifically referring to planets and planetoids of which we know the exact gravitational pull, just in general. But it is somewhat of a mystery, there’s no specific answer I can find in terms of how people adapt.
According to this universe entry on Mars, no humanity cannot change an entire planet’s gravity. I would guess like other people have said there are local gravity generators. What I think is pretty amazing is how they got an atmosphere of .7 of Earth’s on Mars.

Yeah, I thought altering a whole planet’s gravity was far-fetched for Halo, which is usually pretty grounded. I guess Harvest has such a high gravity for its size because the Forerunners mucked around with it.
