I was playing a MP match today and had a team member with the Bungie logo as the Spartan ID tag, see link:
Is this an ex-bungie employee ? I asked, but he didn’t answer.
Thanks !

Tag is unusable by official means, only people who could use it are developers, but more often than not it’s a hacker.

That’s an (illegal) modification. This person used some sort of mod to obtain this. Although it’s harmless to others, it is still a cheat. If you want to file a report, you can fill out a support ticket with any evidence you have.

Players on PC are able to get into the game files and change their service tag to that.
In OG Halo Reach that would have been a actual Bungie employee, however in MCC it’s just someone tampering with the game.
It’s essentially hacking in a non player offensive way.

Yeah, that’s what I thought it was. I especially knew that something like this was going on when I was playing a match against a person who had the Bungie tag but was acting like a child, especially when he lost. Basically saying he would ban everyone if they beat him, filling the chat with foul language, making personal threats, etc. Yeah, I’m pretty sure that guy was a hacker.
I generally feel that mods that mess with the interface or change the game cosmetically aren’t really a problem as long as it doesn’t give the person doing it a competitive advantage. I can personally overlook it.
It is technically against the terms of service on Xbox Live, I believe. If not for the mod itself, then in this case, potentially impersonating a developer. It is up to you if you want to report it.
It would be a positive contribution to report this person to keep a healthy gaming environment for everyone. And even if that person were a developer, it would not be a problem to file a report.
Yeah I was thinking 343 may have purged most Bungie name references out of the games. I would assume someone got into the game files and found it somehow.

You’re making this sound more serious than it actually is. Besides, it would be in everyone’s best interest if people only filed reports on people who actually cheat in a more harmful way, i.e. wall hacks, aimbot, ESP, etc. Reporting people for something as minor as this is a waste of time.

It’s just a service tag dude. You make it seem like they’re promoting hate speech
Hi guys and thanks for the answers.
I have decided not to report it but I want to also say that the people that recommended I report the player are also somewhat right. Ultimately we’re talking about using someone’s identity falsely, so just imagine if there would be no laws forbidding this the chaos that would be going on out there with everyone pretending to be what they are not. But, in all the years I have seen this the first time ever, so I’ll let it slip. Make no mistake, I see this again by another person and I will file a report and include this person here too.
Again, thanks guys !

Am I really? Even with saying that it is harmless to others? I didn’t even say this is terrible and file a report ASAP, I said send one in if you want. I’m sure 343 wants all exploits that are not permitted documented, large and small. You are allowed to mod, but not in matchmaking. That makes this service tag cheat illegal.
So yes, again this is a harmless mod that someone is using. They can be reported or just let it go.

just because it seems harmless, doesn’t mean it is harmless
the methods to obtain that nametag aren’t that far removed from the same methods to add in wall hacks and the like. if the person knows how to acquire that tag, it could indicate they know how to run 3rd party hacks as well.
