calling the covenant hinge-head really really annoys me so much and makes me angry.

It IS a racial slur, that’s kind of the whole point. Just like squid-head, apes, lizards and so on. The UNSC has always spewed racial slurs at the Covenant, now they say hinge-head.

I don’t mind it mainly because the UNSC has never been the haven of racial tolerance people seem to attribute to it after Halo:3. The entire Bungie-based human naming structure was nothing but dehumanizing racial slurs. Covies-Elites-Grunts-Jackals-Brutes, do any of these sound even remotely respectful or tolerant?
And quick question, why would the use of “Hinge-heads” by humans bother people when the Sangheili have always been quick to call us “Demons”, “filth”, “Imps”, “Nishum” along with many other religious insults for why we shouldn’t even exist. God forbid we offend the crazed genocidal lizards that only stopped annihilating our species because their own scaly hides were on the line.

Even though it isn’t really a racial slur as Sangheili isn’t a race to the Humans, more of a inter-species slur, but the amount of times I was called a “demon” in Halo 3, I don’t blame Humanity
