Question for 343 regarding playlists and filtering game modes

Serious question, need insight from a 343 dev or project manager person who knows this stuff:
I read on a waypoint article that making multiple separate playlists would dilute the population by spreading the players out, which makes sense.
So if a filter was added within playlists where we could search in one playlist but filter modes within it, is that doable?

For example:
Playlist: tactical slayer
Mode filters: BR, sidekick, commando, mangler, stalker -OR-
Playlist: snipers
Mode filters: snipers, shotty snipes, brute

Players would be queuing in the same playlist, where selected filters would overlap so the population would be much less diluted. Players who generally want to filter will be playing the most popular modes and the others who don’t care will be cycling through all modes per usual.

Filters should generate good data on which modes are popular. It should also prevent people searching in a playlist for specific modes and then quitting out of the game if they load into undesirable ones. The core playlists main modes can stay, but the modes within the filters can swap depending on player interaction and popularity.

Would something like this work? Or if filtering was already tried, is there a reason it wasn’t kept as a solution?

“Diluting” the population wouldn’t be a problem if they just made a complete game from the start.
