Question about the Midnight release...

Okay, so 21 days till Halo 4 and I have been planning on going to the Halo 4 midnight release. I preordered the Limited Edition around 4 months ago and I have never ever been to a midnight release of any game ever. I was just recently playing with a friend on Reach and we started talking about midnight releases and he brings up how the Halo 3 and Reach midnight releases were really crazy. Like for Halo 3 there was a line from Gamestop that was really really long. He said that I might be better off just waiting till the morning of the release day to get it instead of waiting in line and maybe getting home till 3 in the morning. Is my friend accurate and should I just wait another 10-12 hours to get Halo 4? Thanks in advance.

Well it depends on if u can wait til morning, i dont think id be able to sleep nov 5th im gonna take the chance of getting in front of the line and find out what time itd be best to do so and get out with the game asap

Meh, bring a friend with you because you will be stuck there a while. I would say still go though.

If you’re willing to wait for 10-12 hours after Halo 4 comes out to get it, why not wait for 10-12 hours before Halo 4 comes out in line?

Oh god wait tht long in the parking lot or in line? Tht sounds boring waiting tht long when u could go at like 8 and try to get near front of the line during the day there would be nothing to kill time with

Well the thing is that I really don’t know if I can wait that long to get it (first world problems) and I will, in all likelyhood, have to go to work for an hour at 6 in the morning (getting up at 4), going to school and then going back to work from 4-8 the same day. Also, I am 16 so of course I would need someone who is 17 or older to be with me (which is really really lame because I turn 17 exactly a month after Halo 4). Don’t know how that would work.

A few things on this, I’ve been to three midnight releases for a games: Halo Wars (not crazy at all,) Halo: Reach (was very, very fun,) and Mass Effect 3 (wasn’t very big but was still a blast.) I’ve also been to two midnight openings for movies (which is along the same line) one for District 9 (not busy) and one for the last Harry Potter movie (very busy.)

You want to get there a few hours early, three at least, to get a good spot in line which means you won’t be getting home at around 3 a.m. you’ll be getting home around 12:30 a.m. (taking into account how far I live from GameStop and my previous great places in line thats when I’ve gotten home.)

Midnight releases are just a blast to go to because you can talk to the people who are fans and waiting for the game and just hang out and have a good time talking. You can make friends and add a few more players to the list to meet up online later.

Also, if you’re the GameStop I go to (not sure if others do this, they probably do but I’m not sure) then if you attend the midnight launch they may be giving out prizes. I won one of the cardboard display boxes for Halo: Reach when I went to the Reach midnight release and for the Mass Effect 3 release they had pizza and gave away hats and shirts.

Midnight releases are a great thing to go to and are a lot of fun, I’m going to the midnight release for Halo 4 and I know that’ll be an absolute great time! So go if you can, I recomend it.

I’d say get there at least three hours early. I arrived three hours early for Reach and I was 7th in line and for Mass Effect 3 I went three hours early and again was around the 7th person there.

Pro Tip about midnight releases; Never go to midnight releases on an empty stomach.

I’m fresh out of high school, and our GameStop is literally visible from the high school. SO that being said all of my budds that are still in high school (including my girlfriend) will be walking(or driving) their -Yoinks!- to GameStop because I’m getting there at abouttttt 10am just to get the front of store parking spot, and my car inst moving till I leave. Our GameStop is in a plaza, which in this case, is a long brick building with tons of different stores and restaurants. Papa John’s, Arby’s, a Movie Theater, a Mexican Restaurant, a Steak House, and tons of other buildings. And there is a Burger King, McDonald’s, Long John Silver’s, Fazolies, and a few other places are within walking distance. So my car ISN’T MOVING UNTIL HALO 4 IS IN MY HANDS. I WILL BE THE FIRST PERSON IN THOSE DOORS.

Let me explain how midnight releases work. I’ll explain how the MW3 (my latest one) went.
(GREAT release, terrible game, I sold it 3 day’s after) Alright… So most people got there at about 5-6… The store is still open at this point. Inside of GameStop there was a group of guys from the military with a bunch of SMG’s and LMG’s (real) for people to take pictures with and hold and just admire. You’re free to walk around in store as long as you want. (Some releases have pre-release tournaments) which the walmart (50 feet from the gamestop I went to last year) had a tournament at like 9pm! gamestop even had a huge box of dog tags they gave away for free. GameStop closes at about 10pm roughly before then I’d suggest going in side and telling them to print off your ticket(receipt) for the midnight release.

Alright… So it’s 10pm the doors are locked. Everyone is outside waiting… everyone parties and gets loud at rowdy till about 11:55… This is where the sidewalk gets worse the a NY city street. everyone crowds the front door HARD. fight break out due to people cutting. At this point the line is stretch around the building… at ;east 500 people. once those golden doors open, there are all the GameStop workers at different stations on the floor… Nothing fancy just a bunch of open boxes, this is why you went and got you ticket, you hand it to a guy at a box, and he gives you everything you need, and you’re OUT. If you didn’t get a ticket its okay you can go to the register and have your card scanned just like you where coming in during the day to buy a game. This is just a little slower.

After the first 50-100 people barge inside (this takes about 15 mins) all of the casual gamers (the polite ones) are left. at this point everything is less hectic and you should survive. You should at least have your game by 12:45 (if you’re last in line)

Hope this helped!

Thank you, I think I will totally be going to the Midnight release now. Not as bad as my friend made it out to be. I will just need to bring a back pack full of Mountain Dew and coffee to keep me going.

Three hours early and just get in line fast before it stacks up? Or would it be better to go to gamestop like 10 to 9 or 8 40, the gamestop near me is only 10 minutes away and thx ill be sure to remember that
