Question about the Elite controller.

Too those of you that have it, how is it and what settings would you recommend for halo 5?

It’s… ok. Mine has degraded to -Yoink- in the year that I’ve had it. The right bumper is broken, both sticks have significant drift, and the paddles are hit or miss. As in sometimes they don’t work.

I’m in a tough situation because I don’t like the quality of the thing, don’t want to buy another, but there’s no way I could go back to a normal controller.

So ultimately I suppose it’s hard to make a positive recommendation because of the shoddy build quality.

Thanks for the reply,
Before it started to degrade, how was it?

It was cool. I didn’t do anything fancy with it, just mapped ABXY to the paddles so I never have to leave the sticks. I couldn’t go back to a normal controller now.

I cant figure out how to map mine, is there a switch for it or something?

You have to use the Xbox One Accessories App.

… At least that’s how it worked a year ago lol. Microsoft is always changing things and rebranding things. I can’t keep up.

I mapped all my buttons to the paddles so I would never have to take my thumbs off the sticks. Works out pretty well, definitely helps for midair aiming.

I like the controller, but my girlfriend also got it for me for my birthday last year so I can’t say much about the value. I only use it for Halo 5, and as I don’t play a ton of it anymore, the quality of it has remained constant. I also at least 10 Xbox One controllers in my house, so there’s almost no reason to use one exclusively for the various games I play. I just use it for Halo 5 because I probably forget how to play it normally.

I replaced mine with a scuf custom one, but since I cannot charge weapons with the scuf short triggers, I patched my elite right bumper with cardboard, and it is working fairly well. The only issue I have had has been with the right bumper, no drift, no regrets.

Paddles and the mapping app should have just been standard for all controllers years ago.
$180 for that is just insane, especially considering how easily they break.
I started to claw instead and it doesn’t feel weird anymore and can carry over to any other controller/console.

As for settings, I’ve played bumper jumper so long that I don’t feel like switching.
But if I were to switch, I would put thrust and zoom on anything on the left side of the controller, so my aim is 100% unaffected by mid-battle inputs.
Things like switching weapons have such a long delay anyway, and throwing grenades usually requires you to move the aimer anyway, that it doesn’t matter if they’re on the right side of the controller.
