I’ve beeen reading some wiki forums and started to wondering. How many spartans died in fall of Reach? And what do you think, will they produce more spartans in Halo 5 or what will happend? I’m not looking for the right answer. Just your thoughts
Most of them, I’d say about 90% of Spartans died.
And yes, the Spartan IV program has only begun.
Lets see…during Reach, Noble Team died as well did a bunch of Spartan II’s, I dont know exactly how many.
The Spartan IV’s have just begun but with ONI’s “obsession” with creating a batch of soldiers as good as the II’s, we cant really tell how many breeds of spartans there will be.
Continuing with Reach…there was 72 spartans chosen for the II program out of 150, I dont remember how many survived training and augmentation. Correct me if Im wrong…but the only surviving IIs are John, Kelly, Fred, and Linda, 2 died on the fights against rebels, 2 died as far as I know taking back Halsey from The Covenant, the rest fought on Reach.
…so I’ll let you do the math.
If i remember well, there are 72 Spartans II in the ‘John squad’ (the first SII).
Half of them die in the ‘training’ 5 dies in other battles, and so, the others 28 (Linda/Jhon are on the other mission) were on on Reach. But, you mean all the spartans or the spartans II? Because the noble team and the most of the spartans on reach are Spartan III, (no MJOLNIR armor)…
So, i don’t know if all the Spartans II die on reach (i’m starting the second book so maybe it’s wrote in). For the moment, correct me if i’m wrong, the last (surely alive) Spartan II is Jhon (and maybe Kelly,Fred and a last are MIA but not dead)…
I think someone who read all the book will answer more properly ^^

I have read all the books and there were Spartans deployed to Reach. Fred, Kelly, and Joshou were deployed on the ground while John, Linda and James went Space Ops above Reach.
During the fighting though Joshou died and James thruster harness got debris stuck in it sending him flying into the planet.
Reach is also where Master Chief trained with Cortana against Colonel Ackersons Troops to test the MJOLNIR armor.

There’s like chief, blue team, and naomi. Grey and Black were not at reach, and catalog has hinted one of the teams was on Installation 03.
There’s also red team from halo wars.

John, Fred, Kelly, Linda and William survived Reach. (William died shortly after.)
Kurt was on Onyx, yet died after Reach.
Black team, comprised of Margaret, Roma, Otis and Victor (I probably misspelled) all survived, and are currently at gamma station. (Installation 03 I believe.)
Naomi survived to become part of Kilo-V.
Red Team, comprised of Jerome, Alice, and Douglas are currently MIA. (Though the ship we last saw them on was “Lost with all hands” so maybe dead if ONI knows something we do not.)
Grey team, comprised of Jai, Mike, and Adriana are currently MIA as their last known location was behind enemy lines and nothing has been heard from them since.
Soren COULD be alive, and I think he very likely is.
Maria is alive, but as far as we know out of the Spartan Program.
Fhajad was a washout and is in the UNSC still, I believe.
Musa is alive and was involved in the creation of the Spartan IV’s.
I know many of these individuals are not present on Reach and even more could be alive, but this is a list I have compiled so far.
Note this is only counting successfully augmented S-IIs. Well we (presumingly) lost 16 S-IIs and 17 S-IIIs during the Fall of Reach, 4 S-IIs during the Raid on Reach, 1 S-II during Operation: FIRST STRIKE, 2 S-IIs and 7 S-IIIs during the Battle of Onyx. There’s also the 9 S-IIs that were killed before 2552 (plus two MIA S-IIs) and the vast majority of Alpha and Beta Company for the S-IIIs. As people have previously stated John-117, Fred-104, Kelly-087, Linda-058, Naomi-010, Otto-031, Victor-101, Margaret-053, and Roma-143 are all alive while Jerome-092, Douglas-042, Alice-130, Adriana-111, Jai-006, and Mike-120 are probably alive but MIA.
There is some confusion concerning the number of SPARTAN-IIs throughout the series. For example, in Halo: The Fall of Reach, it is cited on page 46 that there are 75 children on board a pelican for a training mission; however, on page 47, it states that there were 67 children on the training mission out of 75 that were originally on board. No mention is made of the whereabouts of the missing eight. After the augmentation process all 75 reappear, with 33 surviving, 12 surviving but crippled, and 30 being killed as a result of the procedures.
In Halo: The Fall of Reach, it is stated that all of the 33 surviving SPARTAN-IIs, with the exception of Gray Team who had been “…on a mission far outside the confines of UNSC space, now missing for over a year.”,[19] as well as Noble 5, were gathered at Reach. Dr. Halsey states that in the last decade, prior to 2552, only three SPARTAN-IIs had been confirmed KIA between 2542 and 2552, and one had been wounded too severely to continue active duty. This ostensibly places the number of surviving SPARTAN-IIs at 28, with only 25 assumed present at Reach.[11] However, this assumption does not take into account possible KIAs, MIAs, or WIAs for the time between Samuel-034’s death in 2525 and 2552. In Halo: First Strike, three SPARTAN-IIs were diverted from defending Reach’s Orbital Defense Generators to destroying the navigation database of the UNSC Circumference while the rest of the SPARTAN-IIs proceeded to the surface of Reach.[20] Later in the book, it is revealed that a total of 27 SPARTAN-IIs headed for Reach’s surface.[21] This puts the number of SPARTAN-IIs present at Reach at 30. This is consistent with Halo: Fall of Reach’s number of active SPARTAN-IIs that were said to be present on Reach but, again, does not take into account of the KIAs, MIAs, or WIAs that occurred between 2525 and 2552. The status and number of active SPARTAN-IIs is muddied further in the later novels. For example, Kurt-051 is listed as missing in action presumed dead in 2531 when, in reality, he was recruited into the SPARTAN-III program until his actual death in 2552 on Onyx. Three SPARTAN-IIs designated Gray Team were said to have been on “fields of battle too distant to be easily recalled” and apparently had made no contact with the UNSC prior to the Fall of Reach.[11][19]Jorge-052, served on Reach with Noble Team.
Halo Wars’ timeline mentions that a total of 25 out of 28 surviving SPARTAN-IIs were present at Reach. The three absent SPARTAN-IIs are the members of Gray Team. This timeline also confirms that five SPARTAN-IIs were no longer in active duty since the augmentation of the SPARTAN-IIs. Samuel-034, Kurt-051, Randall, Sheila, and another SPARTAN-II mentioned to be “too wounded to continue active duty” are part of this count. The wounded SPARTAN-II could be Maria-062, who, by the Battle of Earth, had “retired” with the intent of starting a family. It should be noted that Samuel-034 died in 2525, and Kurt-051 and Randall went missing in 2531 and 2532, respectively. This does not line up with Halsey’s statements about the SPARTAN-IIs that no longer serve because of events between the years of 2542 and 2552. Although the Halo Wars timeline feature appears to clear up the confusion, the plot of the game causes a new discrepancy, as three new SPARTAN-IIs are introduced: Douglas-042, Jerome-092, and Alice-130. These SPARTAN-IIs were aboard the UNSC Spirit of Fire, which was declared lost with all hands in 2531. To maintain the number given in the timeline, all three of these SPARTAN-IIs would have had to have made their way back to Reach by the time of the battle.
The status of the SPARTAN-IIs is even further skewed by Halo Legends. In the anime series, seven (excluding Ralph, who was discharged from the program) SPARTAN-IIs are introduced: Cal-141, Solomon-069, Arthur-079, Daisy-023,Joseph-122, and two unnamed SPARTANs. Seven of the eight SPARTAN-IIs are killed in their respective episodes: Cal-141 is killed by a Jiralhanae chieftain in The Babysitter, putting her death between 2540 and late 2551.[22] Solomon-069 and Arthur-079 are killed in a mission that takes place in 2544, as seen in The Package. The two unnamed escapees from the SPARTAN-II Program commit suicide in 2525. Daisy-023 and Ralph-303 are killed during the Harvest Campaign between 2526 and 2531, but at this time Ralph was no longer a SPARTAN. Joseph-122 is recaptured into UNSC custody, although he is not mentioned again during the episode. This completely contradicts Halsey’s statements about about three SPARTAN-IIs being KIA between 2542 and 2552, and it further skews the total number of SPARTAN-IIs present at Reach.
If Samuel-034, Randall, Sheila, Kurt-051, Maria-062, Douglas-042, Jerome-092, Alice-130, Cal-141, Solomon-069, Arthur-079, Daisy-023, the two unnamed SPARTANs who committed suicide, and the three members of Gray Team are removed from the count of 33 surviving SPARTAN-IIs mentioned in The Fall of Reach, only sixteen SPARTAN-IIs could have been present at the Fall of Reach. Furthermore, because Jorge-052 served with Noble Team during the Fall of Reach, the Pillar of Autumn could have deployed no more than fifteen SPARTAN-IIs: three to Gamma Station and the remaining twelve to the surface of Reach.
Bungie, along with Eric S. Trautmann, have said that these discrepancies only seem to be errors and that everything will be made clear in time.[23]
In her personal journal, Dr. Halsey there notes, “That lie about all the Spartans gathered here, save for Gray - will that come back to haunt me?” This strongly hints to the existence of SPARTAN-IIs not deployed to Reach. In addition, she notes that the candidates who were killed by the augmentations were cryonically frozen and may have later been resuscitated. She expresses her fear for what the Office of Naval Intelligence might do with their own “secret” SPARTANs, seemingly suggesting the origins of Team Black. She also notes that some of the SPARTANs who were crippled later had their injuries healed, enabling them to return to active duty, possibly fixing the “Reach” discrepancy.[2] In Halo: Reach and Halo: First Strike, 11 unnamed SPARTANs of Team Beta are killed during the Fall of Reach. It is unknown if these 11 SPARTANs make up currently known SPARTANs or previously unknown SPARTANs. If so, this would bring the number of SPARTAN-IIs on Reach to 27. It is not impossible that a number of the SPARTAN-IIs present (and not present, according to Dr. Halsey) during the battle originated from the shrouded Class-II. Had a number, or the remainder, of the Class-II been integrated with the first prior to 2552, it is possible that this would fix the discrepency.
> Snip
My brain… it hurts.
Quite a bit, most of red team was eliminated during their defense of the orbital MAC generators.
Now I think its just a competition to out Halo-nerd everybody lol!!!

I remember read the original fall of reach book and it saying John Kelly and Fred were the only Spartan II too received the real mjolnir armor later on it said Fred got shot and it blew part of his suit open and Kellys suit had a problem so it could not work they were stuck on the space station and going too blow it up in short it said Fred and Kelly died on the space station because they couldn’t leave so I want too know how they are alive and also if the new fall of reach books ending was switched from the old so they could make halo 5 work let me know.

Kelly and Fred weren’t on the space station, they led the ground operation. Linda was technically killed during the battle but was put into a cryochamber and later brought back from the dead through emergency surgery. The other Spartan that followed Chief on the space station, James-005, is presumed dead.
Now let’s stop bringing back these old threads, please.
It’s possible that Beta Squad from red team survived the battle of Reach if you listen to the Radio transmissions from the MP maps on Halo: Reach. That’s 11 S-II’s
The Battle of Tribute saw the Deployment of Multiple S-II and S-III teams. With one of the Teams being completely wiped out
Nicole-458 has been deemed Canon by Frankie, just not the Dead or Alive event.
Seeing how Almost all the S-II class 1 was present at Reach except for the original Red Team on Spirit of Fire, Gray Team, and Black Team. With Nicole being canon and with multiple S-II’s present in the Battle of Tribute the same time Reach was under attack. It just leads to further confirmation that there really a 2nd class of Spartan-II’s made
The correct answer is:
Like Spartan Carter said in Halo: Reach
“Spartans Never die George, They’re just missing in action”

Not to mention, considering there were 150 original candidates, and with numbers like Nicole-458 and Ralph-303, there’d HAVE to be more than the original 150. This is just their way of being able to pull S-II’s out of thin air for future stories.

Ralph’s service tag has been retconned to 033. Assumingly, because the 303 number was a mistake. Nicole-458 is a member of the Spartan-II Program’s second class, which means she would be from a brand new batch of recently identified children. However, there’s a bit of a problem with her number as well. Assuming that the class-IIs did not use any service tag between 001-150 (since those would belong to the original class I candidates), that means that the UNSC/ONI must have identified at least 308 kids that met Dr. Halsey’s requirements. This, however, is EXTREMELY unlikely, given the fact that the whole reason Dr. Halsey grew frustrated and eventually left the project was due to the lack of available candidates.

You really had to necro this thread for that?
