Question about Roland SPOILERS

So basically tons of AIs joined cortana…but I didn’t see roland like in her side or something, i don’t understand him, he’s not so different from the others is he?

So, probably his joining her later in the triology or never? Or his just a third wheel.

Am a halo fan but i dont have the chance to read the books…if it explains something.

I’m not sure, but I think most (maybe all?) of the AIs that ‘sided’ with her have gone rampant. AIs are made to think like humans, free will, and stuff. He’s choosing to not be on the losing side.

A lot of AIs may have joined Cortana to live forever and maybe have peace, but others decided, “Hey, I don’t like this trade. The Mantle is horrifically oppressive and I don’t want to be immortal if it means going along with this.” Roland was probably one of those AIs.

I think Roland not joining Cortana at the end of the game is one of the most poignant parts of the story in Halo 5. 343i actually went so far as to highlight this particular arch, so it’s worth noting.

Despite his indignacy regarding Cortana earlier in the story, he doesn’t hesitate in the least to stand with Humanity after Cortana’s call to arms, and this is a tremendously big deal. I would expect this to have some payoff in the next game.

Roland has a different morality…he chose to help humanity and not the coming overlord.

Also he likely figured out the Warden us manipulating Cortana…

Honestly, I really like Roland, he’s a pretty cool AI, and rather human as far as AI’s go.
I’m glad he didn’t join Cortana, I certainly hope he stays with the UNSC too.

Maybe he’s a double agent for Cortana… Just waiting for the command to betray Lasky and the Infinity

I originally didn’t care for Roland but he’s pretty cool. Good personality and voice work and I like that he’ll speak his mind when he knows it’s needed.

It’ll be very interesting to see how people feel towards AI’s period after this and if they’ll introduce some more on screen.

The player/audience is clearly meant to notice that Roland didn’t join Cortana so the lack of an explanation is telling. I get the feeling it’s something bigger than a set up for a book so I suspect some sort of twist in the next game.
