Question about preorder armor

I preordered Halo 4 and got the Gungnir Pulse armor stuff. Simple question, really:

Can the Gungnir armor be worn without the Pulse skin or are they inseparable? If the latter, I’m going to give the code to a buddy.

The code unlocks just the Gungnir PULS variant. The standard Gungnir armor is unlocked by mastering the Slayer Victory commendation.
