so lets say if i somehow get a copy of halo 4 a week to a couple of days early through legit means (aka non pirated), like with a recipt and everything, will i get banned if i go online? what if i play offline and then as soon as midnight hits, i go online, my logs will show ive been on before, will i get banned? thanks, just dont want to take any chances.
The game comes out on Nov 6th you can wait. If you are planning on getting Halo 4 early than that then yes you can get banned. If the stores however in most cases which they don’t, release the game early it’s their fault. However, stores as far as I know in alot of cases don’t release games early, it’s rare to have stores to release the game before Nov 6th.
I highly suggest you have some self control, and not play until the 6th.
If you live on the west side of the US, play when it’s around midnight for the east coast. But I would avoid playing Halo 4 until it’s release because of all of the leaked copies, Microsoft is like a team of really pissed off drill sergeants going after every single person who even looks at fatty cakes.
Play it safe. If you do play it, play it offline. Its a messed up situation when you are doing nothing wrong and obtained the game legally, but I would recommend playing it safe.
ive been looking at different forum posts like this one and a lot of people agree that playing on the 1st 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th day of november wont warrant a ban… idk i just want to know forsure
OK, this has been answered multiple times, so let me sum up the multitude of responses you are likely to get.
-
" Usually, if you play the game less than a week before release on a legally obtained copy, there would be no problem. Even playing online would be okay." This is the most agreed upon response.
-
" Microsoft are a bunch of Scrooges! They will ban you just so you have to buy a new copy, get a new Xbox, or get a new LIVE account! AHHHH!" This is the worst response (Sorry if someone posts this before I finish

" I don’t know" -_-
Well, what I would do is make an offline Xbox profile, and play the game that way. This way, Halo 4 doesn’t appear on your actual gamertag’s log, and you still get to enjoy it.
Yeah man, don’t risk it with Halo. Even if you DID legitimately get Halo 4 a few days early, Microsoft doesn’t know that, and I am SURE that they will be very weary of it considering how awful the leak situation is, now. I don’t think they will go easy on you, and if they DO somehow let you appeal, the process would take days, maybe weeks for you to come online again. It’s not worth it, man. Just wait til midnight
PS) My suggestion is to wait, like 10 minutes after midnight to play it, for your clock/phone/microwave/vcr may be faster or slower than the servers, and, for whatever bizarre reason or situation may occur, the servers may have the time showing before midnight; Microsoft sees that and bam, they may get ya.
Just play it safe, bro.

Again, it’s better to be safe than sorry, the earliest I’d play Halo 4 is like I stated in my last post, when it’s midnight on the East coast, play, until then, let the discs sit in the case on top of my Xbox until that time, Even if other people say the 1st-5th is fine, It’s not their butts/accounts/Xboxes on the line, it’s your’s, and if I was you, I would do wait until the official release date. The closer to the release date in hours you are, the better your chances at not getting perma banned.
I’ve played the past three (if you count ODST) Halo games a few days before release due to Amazon sending out the game early. That’s fine. You wont get banned for that.
From experience playing a few days early won’t get you in trouble. As for a week early? Hm…I’m not entirely sure.
EDIT: I distinctly remeber having a very similar discussion before the release of Reach. I wish I still had the link to the tweet of one of the Microsoft brass saying they could tell which copies of the game were purchased and which weren’t.

But what an entertaining story that would make to post on the forums!
hmm well see now i dont know what to believe lol. i remember back when halo 3 was released, there was some gamers who were in facet playing a couple of days early, and microsoft (or bungie i forget) actually stated they wont get banned. but now with how much the leak has exploded due to pirated copies… idk what would happen. if i made a different offline profile and played the game on that, and then deleted it before playing on my live account, would that be traceable and or bannable?

This.
In NZ we get the game nearly a day before some people in the states… usually when we play online we get a message come up saying that the game hasn’t been released and the games online component isn’t 100% complete even when it is. But nothing happens you can still play online without any problems.
They must have about a week allowance just to allow for people who get through legit early means. I mean 3 days before its release I would say quite a few people have it.
would playing it on november 1st or 2nd warrant a ban you think?
For Halo Reach, player’s multiplier characters were reset the day it came out. Campaign remained the same. I would expect your Spartan IV to be reset.
So basically, any Spartan Ops would become incomplete, and all unlocks and ranks would go back to the beginning.
This is not confirmed, but this was how it was for Halo Reach. Take this as you will. However at the very least, playing campaign offline shouldn’t hurt you.

Back with Halo 3, Bungie was the ones at the wheel, and Microsoft in the side seat, now, it’s Microsoft that’s at the wheel, and unless you’re told by Microsoft/343i that you can play Halo 4 early, it’s better to not even touch Halo 4 until it’s release.
I’m not sure how Xbox LIVE’s account and software works with tracking games, but I can tell you like others have said, play it safe, wait until release, don’t give Microsoft a reason to go after you. Which I would like to remind you that Microsoft is acting like a bunch of pissed off drill sergeants too me, and drill sergeants LOVE jumping on privates who may or may not of done something.

Keep on topic, please. We are trying to help OP, not deter from this conversation. M’kay?
Back on topic: anyway, regardless of passed titles (2, 3, ODST, Reach) I would still NOT play Halo 4 even on the fifth, or even 11:59pm on the fifth. This is a different company; this is 343i. And guess what just happened to those poor folks? Their game which was under construction for 5 years was stolen and mass pirated to a bunch of losers. If I were 343i, I would be VERY strict in regards to play-time commencing. In light of the leak crisis, I would seriously wait to play 10 minutes after midnight.
However like I said, it’s unlikely and very rare for stores to release video games early. I would call to see if they do have your game depending on where you are going to buy it. If I were you and any other people who are getting the games early, no thanks to the stores releasing it early, wait until Nov 6th to not spoil it for fans here. I would wait until Nov 6th to be safe.

I wouldnt risk a couple of days to then be banned and then you cant play at all. Plus you will have know one to pla with anyway
