Question about NOBLE Team and the Books

So I have a few questions for those who have played through Reach and read the books The Fall of Reach, First Strike, and Ghosts of Onxy. Obvious Spoilers below.

In the events of Fall of Reach it is said that Halsey’s dropship managed to escape from SWORD Base but her S-II bodyguard was presumed dead. Also in the events of First Strike, Halsey is found at CASTLE Base by the surviving members of Blue Team. Where she discovers from Admiral Ackersons datapad about the SPARTAN III’s, which after escaping Reach with Blue Team and Chief, kidnaps Kelly and makes the secret mission to Onxy to find out what is going on there.
However in Halo: Reach (game) she meets SPARTAN’s Carter, Jun, and B-312. All being S-III’s.

My questions being: How is the creation of NOBLE Team explained? There was never mention of Jun, Carter, or Cat by Kurt-051 or Franklin Mendez in Ghosts of Onxy. And how is it that she met three S-III’s, but still doesn’t have knowledge they exists until discovering that in CASTLE Base? Did she think they were S-II’s because they had Mjolnir Armor? Also how does Jun escape Reach?

Questions are in the Spoilers box. Let me know what you guys think, or if there is official word on this stuff. Also please refrain from any spoilers for Glasslands, Thursday War, and Mortal Dictata. If your answer includes passages from these books just say "You’ll find out when you read ___". As I am currently reading Glasslands and going through the Kilo-5 Trilogy. Freakin’ AMAZING books!

Thanks!

I was able to learn a few things from Halo Wiki:

A select number of candidates were handpicked before the events of Operation: Prometheus. I remember this in Ghosts of Onxy, the SPARTANS were just never mentioned by name. But this included Kurt, Jun, and Emile.
Still the questions remain of Halsey meeting S-III’s but then only discovering them by hacking Admiral Ackerson’s datapad.

If anyone has any comments on my other questions, please reply.

You’ve already got their creation covered.

Halsey’s journal has her speculate they’re from another program (one of the hypothesized ones being something called JAVALIN). She just doesn’t know from where as they don’t go around saying they’re S-III’s or saying who was responsible. Given that all other S-III’s she meets where different armor and work differently than S-II’s, its possible she never 100% thought that noble were S-III’s.

Ya know I don’t recall ever reading Halsey’s Journal from the Reach Collectors Edition. I need to go back and do that. Thanks!

What about Jun? I know he somehow made it off Reach. But there doesn’t seem to be any mention of him between 2552 and 2555 when he was tasked with the SPARTAN IV Program.

Halsey wasn’t the creator of the Spartan III’s, Colonel James Ackerson was. They were made to be cheaper and more expendable than the II’s. In Reach Halsey cared for only one Spartan and that was Jorge because he was a II. Jun escaped Reach after taking Halsey to CASTLE BASE, his means of escape is unknown. Jun recruited soldiers for the Spartan IV program.

I take it you’re getting this from the adjunct section of The Fall of Reach Definitive Edition? This scene is actually about a completely different battle which has nothing to do with the Fall of Reach. It references the Battle of Miridem when Doctor Halsey was escorted off world by Shiela-065, but they were intercepted and Shiela was killed by Thel 'Lodamee. This battle and Shiela’s death was originally mentioned in Ghosts of Onyx and Halsey’s rescue by Blue Team was shown in Halo Legends “The Package”. People often assume that the demon mentioned is Jun-A266 but it’s not. We have no idea how Jun managed to survive, but he did and he currently trains the new generation of Spartan-IVs.

When Red Team meets up with Halsey at SWORD Base, Halsey tells the Spartans that the base had evacuated and she chose to stay behind to destroy the base. It’s possible, (although not confirmed), that he simply left with the rest of the base personnel.

Damn. Well i’m no closer to linking Halo:Reach and First Strike then when I started this thread. No official word on how Reach and First Strike is handled in canon, eh?

What do you mean by handled in canon and linking reach and first strike?

My original questions. Halsey met NOBLE Team at SWORD Base and handled them Cortana to escort to Pillar of Autumn. She then got on a Pelican drop ship with Jun. So did she go to CASTLE Base? What happened to Jun? In First Strike she was at CASTLE when Fred, Kelly, and the other SPARTAN’s of Red Team found her.

These will help you out. Basically it’s a attempt by 343I to fix up the mess that Bungie threw at them with Halp: Reach and established cannon

Do you remember how in First Strike Halsey mentions volunteering to stay behind in CASTLE Base to initiate the clean sweep of all research and all information that would be of benefit to the Covenant? Volunteering to stay behind indicates that there were other people there who then consequently evacuated, leaving Halsey behind. It’s easy enough to figure out what happened to Jun from the end of Halo: Reach. He and Halsey make it to CASTLE Base, and there are still other survivors there, Halsey then volunteers to stay behind in order to initiate Operation: WHITE GLOVE and purge the facility of all data, and Jun then leaves with the other evacuees and gets safely off of Reach.

And as for Carter, Jun, Emile, Kat, and Noble Six never being mentioned in Ghosts of Onyx, they simply weren’t invented yet. And even if they had been, each class of Spartan IIIs were 300+ Spartans, you’re not going to see or learn the names of every single one of them. And because there’s such a large number of them, there are plenty of blank spots to fill in with names and faces as Bungie later did with all of the different members of Noble Team.
Halsey also didn’t know anything about the Spartan IIIs just because she met Noble Team. There wasn’t any sort of tag on them or anything identifying what kind of program they had come from, all she knew about them at that point was that they were augmented individuals and outfitted in Mjolnir armor, there had been other rival companies and individuals that had been working to try and create super soldiers and power armor after and before the Spartan IIs, and that’s what Halsey would have assumed Noble Team came from until she actually found out about the Spartan IIIs in First Strike.

Don’t forget all the other teams like Noble like Gauntlet and those who died in the final stand with noble 6
