Question about Mark V

I was rereading Dr. Halsey’s journal, always fun going through the universe. Something I noticed was about the Mark V. In the journal, it’s stated that Mark V was introduced in November 2551. However, before this, it was that John tested the armor in August 2552. Have they explained this difference? Was it that the armor was in place, it’s just that John had tested the implementation of an AI? When I read this, I wondered why this was put in, and if they’ve cleared it up.

The introduction was likely in the case of noble team.

Chief still tested the armor in august later. Nothing’s saying you can’t test something once a very small group has fielded it.

True.

Mk V came out in 2551. But the final, true, version of Mk V came out in August 2552 for the Spartan-IIs.

Pretty much Johns test of the Armor was Human-AI pair testing.

> The armor actually dates back as early as 2542 in early creation and testing. With the final shielded versions existing in November 2551.
> Behind the scenes though in ONI, Mjolnir Black had the ability to hold an AI before John tested that ability. Though its either Mjolnir Black wasnt perfect in it. Or Johns test was merely showing the ability to investors to ensure their investments werent wasted.

It’s actually kind of odd the S-II’s weren’t more involved with development of their armor variants, given they’re the only ones able to wear them…

I mean, you could say they have good simulations in the future, but these are the same people who put a normal human in one and watched what happened…

Might seem that way, but I could see the inverse; given how important the S2s and their missions are, it would be catastrophic if they tested an armor variant and discovered a flaw that compromised them during a mission. Spartans tend to be the linchpin of the missions they’re involved in, and equipment failure compromising them could compromise the entire mission. In that light, it makes more sense to make sure there are no kinks in any of the variants before putting them in action.

Edit: Plus, with how important S2s are, pulling them off duty to test out armor might be virtually impossible – everyone wants and needs a spartan for some mission or another at all times.

But we saw in ye olde Halo Graphic Novel that at least one retired S2, Maria, was once called in to do some test runs with the Gen 1 Mark VI. I could see that being a common practice, with any retired supersoldiers.

The early models of Mk. V fielded in 2551 were utilized by CAT-II teams made up of Spartan-IIIs that would have met Halsey’s recruitment criteria for the Spartan-IIs. The most notable of these CAT-II teams was NOBLE Team. The model of Mk. V that John-117 would go on to test and be utilized by the Spartan-IIs was the finalized version. The major difference between the two is the integration of the crystal layer that allowed the use of an on-board A.I. such as Cortana. The 2551 Mk. V lacked this layer, hence why Noble Six had to carry Cortana on his back rather than in his helmet.

Would not shock me if Halsey did it partially to double-duce Ackerson as well.
