Question about Heian

Heian is featured in Halo: Evolutions - From the Office of Dr. William Arthur Iqbal & Halo Legends - The Babysitter and is quite unique. What’s revealed is that the planet is that it’s architecture appears to be a mix of a variety of ancient human styles, including Greco-Roman, Middle Eastern and East Asian, with subtle Forerunner themes. What I’m wonder is, what’s going on here? It can’t be ancient Humanity structures, as our old look was quite similar to the Forerunners’. I’m curious what was going on with Heian?

Do humans still live in huts made from dung?
Do humans still hunt and kill with spears and arrows?

dung? Nice description XD I do find it weird that they built the architecture like that 100,000 + years ago, yet after the Conservation Measure and reseeding, we went back and had the same architecture style after being de-evolved.

Primitive humans living in North America, completely separated by a ocean, develop the same tools and weapons as those in Europe. Humans think the same no matter the time or distance. It is not very surprising when you think about it.

What I meant from the first comment was that humans did not start out with high-tech warships and weapons, they had to develop. They also experienced numerous dark ages before the Halo Rings and it could easily be one of them.

I think what the answer could be is when we left Earth the 1st time (before encountering the Forerunners and San’Shyuum), we set up settlements that used architecture from our primitive past. The Forerunners encoded our memories into our genes so we could rebuild our societies. They kept the architecture there for reasons I’m not sure.

After ancient humanitys defeat the Forerunners attempted to wipe out all traces, they missed Heian.

possibly, IDK, it’s something we could ask Grim about.

I always assumed it was meant to show that Humans and Forerunners were at some point in the ancient past the same race , or at least the same species that had suffered a massive schism , that eventually led to the two Empires. Not sure if this is still the current course or not , but this evidence seems to lean toward that conclusion. However this “evidence” also could have been made by 343 so that this could be the example of where that theory came from in game?

It is also entirely possible that Ancient Humanity incorporated Forerunner architectural designs into their designs after making contact with them while our races were in a relative state of peace. Maybe the only planet where this happened before the Flood attacked Humanity.
Possibly the only Forerunner/Human society , where factions of both races attempted peaceful co-existence?
Lots of possibilities , with no clear answer.
However , we also know that Lifeworkers were stationed on Primitive planets. Is it possible that this was a splinter of Ancient Humanity (or other ancient Human society) that was influenced by Lifeworker ships and Tech stationed on the planet?

In no way does the current evidence point to that theory, that theory also has been shot down years ago. Humans and Forerunners are two different species. This was also made before 343.

Funny thing… I actually was just thinking about this theory. While there is no current evidence to suggest it to have happened the records from the age of Precursors and times just after their fall are blurry at best. It is certainly curious why Precursors made these species so similar.

I agree. If they all think the same what am i thinking now?

I said think the same, not psychic.

I always thought it was ancient Humans. Just like humanity now, humanity back then probably still had different cultures and ways of life, maybe the people that colonized Heian preferred a simpler lifestyle and had culture similar to current humanity’s Asia.

I think there’s a connection. The Librarian has hinted that there is. Her original fascination with humanity was because we could somehow teach them more about themselves.

Humans and Forerunners were created by the Precursors, humans were chosen to inherit the mantle and the Forerunners tried to wipe out the Precursors. That is their only relation, the Librarian cared because that is who she was.

There are several reasons to think that the relationship between Human and Forerunner is deeper and more mysterious. This article does a great job explaining this potential.

I would like to direct you to this part of the blog.

  • *We’re going to examine the exact nature of the Forerunner-human relationship as presented in the Forerunner Saga and consider how it stays true to both concepts that Bungie had of humans being Forerunners but also not being Forerunners.*He is focusing on if Bungie’s original concept would have panned out, not how it is actually established.

No he’s not. The Forerunner Saga is a 343i product. He’s comparing and contrasting the two visions and how the new vision doesn’t completely change the old but actually how 343i is actually following cues from Bungie.

Direct yourself here:

  • _As a result of this, if it is indeed true, then humans and Forerunners were once the same (following Bungie’s original concept) but their separation and independent evolution over the ages have culminated in them becoming two very different species (following what Bungie established in Halo 3’s additional fiction). So you begin to see how it’s not quite so cut-and-dried as an issue, it’s something that is layered in textual ambiguity across multiple sources and years of interconnected stories._He’s specifically talking about how the lore was established, not “how it would have panned out.”

It’s either a human colony abandoned during and forgotten during humanity’s early ages or a human colony missed by Forerunners during their purge of us. Also it could be that the humans living there wanted to live a more primitive, simple lifestyle which wouldn’t be an odd thing. The feeling I get from the place is that it’s a religious/spiritual centre of human culture based on the architecture/statues. Also the Geas put on humanity can cause memories of ancient human times to manifest in dreams and thoughts. Those memories would include architecture and culture which likely influenced post-Halo firing Humanity’s many ancient world cultures such as the identical architectural styles, statues to those on Heian, I dare say it even possibly influenced religious beliefs later on…
