Question about HALO: CEA Secret Terminal 11 "Threshold"

Okay, this post might contain Spoilers for some.

Right, so when watching this terminal you’ll see 343GS fly towards the Gas Giant “Threshold” after Installation 04’s destruction and he makes contact with a Covenant force there. The Grunts and Elites are wearing the Heretic armour featured in Halo 2’s campaign. But, in this video they’re still apart of the Covenant and haven’t disconnected from them yet.

My question is, if they’re still apart of the Covenant, then why aren’t they wearing the standard Covenant issued armour?

Also, I noticed that Jackal’s are there also when they aren’t there during Halo 2. I guess that means they didn’t want to separate and we’re killed by the Grunts and Elites.

This confused me too. Here’s what I would take away from the terminal, with no other resources to explain it:

  • The people on that facility are members of the Covenant, sent there to investigate.
  • Their rigs are either older models or alternate ones, and in either case are likely a representation of getting handed the short stick. Maybe, since they weren’t expecting to fight, these suits were given so that the Covenant didn’t waste good suits on people that weren’t going to use them?
  • Perhaps the Jackals were all killed when the rebellion was started. If Cole Protocol and Glasslands have taught me anything, they’ve taught me that the Jackals were all opportunists and the Covenant knew that well. When the leader realized he wanted to speak against the lies of the prophets, he must have known that the jackals would sell him out if they could get away with it.

How do those answers sit with you? I think that they’re acceptable, though I’d like to hear from someone with more information too.

I think there armor is a uncommon variant in the Covenant, perhaps unique to these Elites and Grunts.

As for the Jackals, I’m guessing due to the fact that they would probably just rat the heretics out to the Covenant, they were all killed (I’m sure the poor Grunt in that terminal wouldn’t mind that).

Correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t the structure that they’re standing on either in open space near threshold, or in the planet’s actual atmosphere? If this is true, their normal armor wouldn’t work in space or in threshold’s atmosphere. That is why you can see that breathing apparatus in the elite’s mouth who is talking to 343 GS. So, I think they are actually more like suits designed for operations in harsh environments.

As far as I can tell, the suits are for operating in facilities such as this, maybe in the atmosphere of gas giants or something. It actually makes more sense to me that they kept the armor from when they were part of the covenant. Where would they have gotten new suits?

Where abouts do u actually find this terminal

It’s only available on the Waypoint Xbox app after you find the 10 in Halo CE Anniversary. See this video for more details (spoilers, of course):
