So with all this stuff going on in Halo 4 one of the things confusing me the most is spartan points.
Do you just use them to buy custom class items? Or armor as well. Do you get one each time you level? Once a gun unlocks, do you actually have to buy it?
I’m sorry, but I would like help figuring this out.
You level up by getting XP , you get XP by playing War Games(Matchmaking) , Spartan Ops(higher difficulties means more XP , Forge , completing Commendations and completing Challenges . Each time you level up , you get some Spartan Points that you can use to buy new things in your loadouts , like buying a Battle Rifle (cause you only start with an Assault Rifle , Magnum and Frags). You will be able to see everything you can buy at SR-26 , but you will only have enough SP when you reach SR-50 , the last Ranks excluding Specializations. Some stuff like Armor pieces don’t cost Spartan Points , instead you unlock them more like in Halo 3 , by doing stuff , like getting Achievements.
For example , if you complete the Halo 4 Campaign on Legendary , you get a pretty classic piece of armor that we should all know(not saying what it is , surprise lol). 
In other words , when you see that you can buy a gun , you have to buy with your Spartan Points , same goes with the other kind of grenades , Armor Abilities , Tactical Packages and Support Upgrades . Hope that helped you !

Yup and no problem ! Though just a little note here , when you reach SR-50 and you bought everything , you will have to engage in Specializations , they each have 10 Ranks to complete and when you reach Rank 10 for let’s say Pioneer , you will unlock some armor stuff , a Fast Track armor mod , an emblem and some other goodies . So if you want to have 100% in War Games , you gotta complete SR-50 and complete all 8 Specializations , in total you will reach SR-130 ! From one of the most recent bulletins , there is a hint that we might get a thing or two for reaching that final Spartan Rank !
