As most of us are aware, Grunts have a Shrapnel mine ability when given their first upgrade for 300 power. It isn’t comparable to the Marines and their grenades in a direct confrontation but the mines can be fatal under the right circumstances.
My one gripe is that you have to deploy each mine individually. Grunt squad by grunt squad.
I would like to be able to select a group of grunts or all grunts and press Y (or R for my keyboard fellas) and have the squad(s) deploy the mines WHERE THEY STAND. This would be a massive quality of life improvement. Instant minefield.
Would it be overpowered? No. And here’s why:
-
A good player is cognizant of what is happening to his or her units even when they are not looking at them. If they start stepping on mines they should back out before continuing through the minefield.
-
One detector unit would nullify the entire field.
Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance.
Absolutely agree. Actually at first I thought this was the case, I mean, it is logical.
This should be the default behavior.

I agree. Same with sentinels, and countless other units Y abilities.
IF you select all grunts and just keep spamming Y they keep throwing them… a little bit better than attempting to select individually … just a little tip

Good to know in the meantime. Thank you.
Agreed. It’s time consuming and tedious spamming Y everywhere. Another example is with a group of kodiacs or blisterbacks, they spend most of their time trying to get into position it would be a lot easier if they deployed where they were.

This wouldn’t work with blisterbacks because they fly and might deploy into an abyss but it would’ve cool for kodiacs indeed.
I’d like to combine y abilities with the RT button. Select a group of marines, hold RT and press Y to make only 1 unit throw a grenade. Preferably the one closest to the target. Press Y again for the second unit etc.

The problem with that is that when you press Y they try to move towards your cursor. So you have to move the cursor like crazy while spamming Y.

I do not agree with the Blisterback here. They are perfect as they are.
I find this mechanic with the Grunts unnecessarily irritating, I would advocate any change to how they deploy their mines.
Since we are talking about mines i would like to add that we need better way to deploy them with many grunts but also if they will ever be useful rabbit healing / detector ability needs to be t2 so that every UNSC won’t have 15-20 detectors in 4-5min.

U should not get shrapnel mine vs unsc. Thr reason for that is because the mines gives your opponents leader points. When your opponent sees the mines, all he has to do is kill them and his leader point builds up, which is really big in high level games.
That seems to be an issue with a lot of units. I have to activate their Y ability individually regardless of whethere or not I’ve selected all of them. It’s really infuriating.

100% agree with the OP, this should also be added for kodiac and blisterback siege mode.
now I didn’t know mines gave exp when destroyed to earn leader points, this is imo something the developpers didnt think of and should be patched , it makes no sense.
I would agree. It’d be nice to have one button to toss them all.
However, it’s better to keep the option of doing them one at a time right? Then you can diversify your field.
It’s especially useful with the Vulture. You can just Y tap the different units you want to hit, or save a few for another base/fight, if you need to. This would be assuming that you have multiple vultures, which you should!

That needs changing then. A player should not be punished for using the abilities they paid for using power/supplies. Keep it on the destruction of Lotus, Plasma, and Scout mines, sure, but not shrapnel.

Agreed. Against JR users (almost all high level games) the mines won’t be nearly as effective. I dislike that the JR gets so many perks for a tech 1 upgrade.
