I have generally been a fan of the Halo 5 ranking system, and the reset doesn’t bother me as I enjoy the climb.
However, I feel it would be much more rewarding if everyone started at Bronze, instead of having the qualifying rounds. To me it’s such a relief and accomplishment to get to the neXt level and know you cannot rank down. In my opinion this would make me want to always pick up halo and try to rank up. At the moment after the qualifying, i get either Platinum or Dimond and don’t really have the opportunity to rank up.
I would be fine with this. They would need to put multipliers in for consecutive wins as well as performance to allow better players to advance faster. Otherwise it would be to much of a grind for anyone to handle.
What happens is that you would get people that belong in bronze vs people that belong in onyx but just started in that playlist. The grind starting from bronze would also be to long and could possibly turn away potential players that can’t play enough to grind to the top.
Agreed to All the Above. In H2/H3 I plateaued around 40 because you could DeRank. I was stoked to learn that was not the case with H5, until they announced seasons >:( In qualifying I often see players already ranked among players still qualifying, not to mention seeing players CSRs 2 or even 3 times higher then mine. How can anyone play consistently against those odds. Starting at 0 and working up slowly against gradually increasing competition is the best way for everyones skill level to improve. Arena is supposed to be based on competitive and equal play, but I think right 343 is missing the mark. It’s still night and day better then H4 but there’s room for matchmaking to improve.

You have that now, the 10 qualifiers are random competition. If you had to start at Bronze then at furst everyone would be mismatched but it would start to even out as people start to climb.
You would need to increase resets to maybe every 3 months but it could work.
Placement ranking is only there to weed out the players with high latency. Don’t matter how well you do in the ten games if you have high latency you get placed in the low ranks. All the low latency players get to grind out together. Your kidding yourself if you think it’s about anything else.

Exactly. this is how the 1-50 ranks worked. Good players would be stuck in the lower levels (below 35 or so imo) for much much longer than 10 games. Now after 10 games, they get placed where they ought to be, or maybe a tiny bit lower so they can still have to rank up.
If they were to do anything it would be to lower the number of placement matches you need to place and underestimate your skill marginally (to prevent players from being placed too too high and get wrecked for the entire season). I’m sure that 343 could analyze the data now that we are into the second season and do some calculations to find the optimal balance between number of placement matches/accuracy of placement to find the “sweet spot”.
10 placement matches seems like it was chosen because its a nice round multiple and humans like numbers like that, not because its really the best number of matches for an accurate reading.
This is exactly what seasons are for. You’re placed in a rank this season, you do your best every game, and at the end of it you should be “better”. If you’re not, well - try harder next time. Then, next season, you have the opportunity to prove yourself again.
Yea it’s flat out stupid. Use Halo 2s ranking system hellooooooo? ?? Everyone wants it back for a reason. It was the most accurate of all the Halo games and gave people a reason to win why cuz if you lost to much you went down a number.

I’m not too bothered about the higher levels and mismatched games, I just enjoy the climb and feeling as though I am making progress rather than do the qualifying and be unable to rank up. (Maybe the qualifying rounds work too well!)
