Puzzles in Infinite?

HiddenXperia recently came out with an interesting video about Halo Infinite possibly implementing puzzles in the campaign.

I personally like the idea given that Infinite is semi-open world with massive variety of enemy encounters and also what you can do and such. Halo 3 ODST had something like that, but only limited to New Mombasa Streets (as the Rookie) to figure out the location of the audio logs. Heck, Metroid Prime (all of them) had a lot of puzzles to not only break up the monotony but also employ critical thinking, which I can see happening given that in Infinite there are bond to be a lot of hidden things to find like skulls, terminals, and such. What do you think, should puzzles be in Infinite too?

I like campaigns that challenge the logic and spatial awareness of the player, forcing us to pay attention can help keep us immerese. I support more puzzles, but Halo at its core is also an FPS so much of its “puzzle” will simply come from overcoming certain patterns and layouts of enemies and objectives.

Why are people wanting to turn this ino a FPS tomb raider game? It’s a sci-fi, futuristic Arena fps shooter with a good campaign. Halo focus on being halo, nothing else.

Halo has always rewarded problem solving and exploration for things like skulls and Easter eggs (including quite a few puzzles). I don’t expect that we are going to get to the point where we are solving Portal or Tomb Raider style puzzles in Infinite, but something a bit more than “kill everyone here to complete objective” from time to time is welcome, IMO.

Nobody is saying they want this to be a FPS Tomb Raider.

I had never really thought about it before but I’m open to the idea of puzzles in Infinite. Seems like it could be a cool challenge you’d have to get through for like a special power weapon or something you found in a hidden area. Forerunner technology and architecture now that I give it some thought is rife for platforming puzzle opportunities.

When I think of Puzzles in Halo I think of the IWHBYD skull in Halo 3, which was awesome.

So long as puzzles don’t involve breaking gameplay to play a minigame, and are used for secrets as opposed to being required to progress the game I’d be happy.

I think puzzles will add a bit more variety in terms of what we can expect to be doing in Halo Infinite. Halo is more than just a point and shoot game, it’s about the journey and exploration as well (specifically CE). I think logic puzzles would be a great way to breakup and add variety to the gameplay. One of the best FPS titles to do logic puzzles IMO is Doom Eternal, which is sometimes required to progress through the levels but are mainly used to access secrets and collectibles that would otherwise go unnoticed and can be skipped.

I would prefer quality over quantity though. I don’t want to see the same mindless puzzle copy-pasted over and over again. I think unique puzzles that are memorable to specific points in the game would be much better received by players and add to the experience as a whole. Not saying they can’t repeat types of puzzles, but I think some variety would go a long way, especially for replayability.

Puzzles for secrets are nice (if they are well made) because it changes the pace, you’re not always walking then battle then walking again (or sprinting depending on the player), and gives you a small reward.
I would like having nice puzzles to release some tension before the next fight against grunts

I’m down for puzzles, after IWHBYD I’d take anything like it.

I would be incredibly happy with puzzles in Infinite. I love when a game challenges us to think about what we need to do to progress.

I would really think puzzles are in Infinite’s campaign and personally think we will for sure see them. Think about it guys, skulls and terminals, audio logs from ODST, the game will sure some sort of puzzle/hidden paths. I’m excited!

I will also tip my hat to this idea. Puzzles can be fun. I get it, Halo is a FPS, but, variety is fun. Maybe not like Shadowgate, or Myst, but maybe Uncharted level of puzzle?

I think it would be something cool and rewarding the puzzles could give better weapons and skulls

Please no puzzles. I paid to shoot things, not use my brain. If I buy say, Elder Scrolls or Portal, yeah I expect puzzles. Don’t try to pull a Doom Eternal with the jump puzzle crap either. In short, NO, NO PUZZLES. I’m buying this game to shoot aliens with a gun, and that’s what I’ll do.

I’m with Gamrknight352 on this one. I prefer the tried and true “gun on gun, you’re done” style of Halo.

Halo’s combat system was always a puzzle by nature

Look maybe puzzles will only be for optional content, like data pads or skulls or others, so you’ll just be able to skip those and go kill aliens. (wanted to quote Johnson but it wouldn’t be polite)
However if there are also puzzles on missions, then I am sorry because you will have to use brain to continue (or maybe it won’t be complex puzzles because it’s not a puzzle game like Portal, so it will be easy to solve).

> You’re already using your brain during combat anyways. Its already been highlighted that you could take more strategic approaches when ambushing the enemies in Infinite. Don’t see why it would hurt to add simple puzzles that could be fun little respite from all the grand action. Adding more things to do in a semi open world setting is always a plus.

343 has a long history of puzzles in Halo 4 and 5 - namely the puzzling art direction.

I don’t recall puzzles in any of the halo games? it was just shooting aliens and getting from A to B to finish a mission. Sure there were buttons to press for elevators etc but the game told you to press them. can you be more specific?
