So i made two different accounts and have gotten them both ranked in the slayer playlist and am very confused as to how the results came to be. In my first account i went 5-5 in my placement matches and did fairly poorly with my individual stats which resulted in a Diamond 1 rank, whereas in my second account i went 7-3 in my placement matches and did considerably well with my individual stats which resulted in a Gold 6 rank. From my understanding i thought rank placement was determined by wins/losses as well individual performances within those games and seeing as though both accounts are glaringly different in that regard it is very strange how my first account received a higher rank than my second account. If somebody can please help explain this or provide a response that would be greatly appreciated. I have listed my stats below for reference:
1st acct.(Ranked Diamond 1)
Game 1: 50-28 Win (Stats: 20 kills, 4 deaths)
Game 2: 50-45 Win (Stats: 8 kills, 16 deaths)
Game 3: 50-45 Win (Stats: 7 kills, 11 deaths)
Game 4: 42-50 Loss (Stats: 9 kills, 12 deaths)
Game 5: 50-44 Win (Stats: 21 kills, 8 deaths)
Game 6: 48-50 Loss (Stats: 5 kills, 14 deaths)
Game 7: 50-49 Win (Stats: 15 kills, 11 deaths)
Game 8: 32-50 Loss (Stats: 8 kills, 11 deaths)
Game 9: 48-50 Loss (Stats: 7 kills, 9 deaths)
Game 10: 2-23 DNF (Stats: 1 kill, 3 deaths)
Game 11: 48-50 Loss (Stats: 11 kills, 13 deaths)
2nd acct.(Ranked Gold 6)
Game 1: 38-50 Loss (Stats: 23 kills, 9 deaths)
Game 2: 50-32 Win (Stats: 17 kills, 4 deaths)
Game 3: 50-42 Win (Stats: 20 kills, 11 deaths)
Game 4: 45-50 Loss (Stats: 17 kills, 10 deaths)
Game 5: 50-28 Win (Stats: 21 kills, 7 deaths)
Game 6: 50-31 Win (Stats: 22 kills, 5 deaths)
Game 7: 50-49 Win (Stats: 21 kills, 7 deaths)
Game 8: 36-50 Loss (Stats 14 kills, 12 deaths)
Game 9: 50-49 Win (Stats: 19 kills, 10 deaths)
Game 10: 50-28 Win (Stats: 13 kills,6 deaths)
It is determined by individual performance, but it’s mostly about who your games are against that has the biggest impact. Sure you could win 7 games, but if 6 are against golds and only 1 is against plat and all 3 losses are against diamond and above, you won’t get ranked that high. Whereas if 1 is against silver/golds and 6 are against plat/diamond, you’ll get ranked higher.
Also i had a friend who just ranked Onyx in this season after putting up some stats that wouldn’t really warrant an Onyx rank. In my first account i remember facing a lot of diamond players in my placement matches, in my second account i remember facing a lot of gold & platinum players in my placement matches, and in my friend’s account he remembers facing a lot of onyx players in his placement matches. If the criteria of rank placement is determined by who you face rather than how you fare team and individual wise then i would strongly urge 343 to change this immediately. My friend’s stats are below
Friend’s acct. (Ranked Onyx)
Game 1: 40-50 Loss (Stats: 14 kills-10 deaths)
Game 2: 50-31 Win (Stats: 15 kills-6 deaths)
Game 3: 34-50 Loss (Stats: 10 kills-14 deaths)
Game 4: 10-32 DNF (Stats 2 kills-6 deaths)
Game 5: 50-49 Win (Stats 20 kills-9 deaths)
Game 6: 50-35 Win (Stats 12 kills-8 deaths)
Game 7: 34-50 Loss (Stats 6 kills-13 deaths)
Game 8: 28-50 DNF (Stats 2 kills-7 deaths)
Game 9: 50-47 Win (Stats 5 kills-13 deaths)
Game 10: 50-33 Win (Stats: 8 kills-11 deaths)
Game 11: 50-46 Win (Stats: 9 kills-10 deaths)
Game 12: 50-37 Loss (Stats: 7 kills-12 deaths)

Sure but if i am consistently doing well and am deserving of being matched up against higher ranked players why am i being matched up against Gold players? My friend who reached the onyx rank didn’t put up stellar stats but he got matched up against onyx rank players once in his placement matches and lost but kept matching up against onyx ranked players despite that
This is a problem I have as well. I think it is stupid that placement is largely luck. If you play against diamond and onyx players for your placement matches and put up horrible stats, you still are placed in diamond or onyx no matter what. It is the same if you play against golds and plats. Who you play against should not matter as much as your individual stats. This is why I think that players that are still in the placement process should only play against other players who are placing as well. While this could increase the amount of time to find a game, I believe it is well worth implementing something like this to help place people where they should be placed based off of mostly individual skill.

There were a ton of unranked players in my placement matches that i was in and considering the amount of new Halo 5 players gained from the holiday season as well as people who haven’t played the game since the preseason rank resets, i don’t see why 343 wouldn’t be able to implement this process. Although i highly doubt this issue will come to light with 343 i hope that a more efficient matchmaking process for placement matches can be implemented in future seasons
