Put Kazuma Jinnouchi as the head composer

His compositions have some clear Star Wars-esque themes in them, but they were the best in the game. “117”, “Never Forget(Midnight”, “Sacrifice”, “Mantis”. I’d definitely say he has a better grasp on what the rest of the new trilogy should sound like than Neil. Neil’s music was alright, but he’s been getting credit for some of Kazuma’s great works.

There’s only one true head composer in Halo. That ladies and gentlemen is good ol’ Marty O’Donnell.

However, OP, Kazuma did a fantastic job doing “117”. Its by far the best one and fits MC perfectly.

I was thinking the same thing after listening to the volume 2 version of the soundtrack.

> I was thinking the same thing after listening to the volume 2 version of the soundtrack.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one.

agreed. Mantis will never get boring! That song is wonderful. Btw, do any of you know where I can find a free download or torrent of Vol. 2? I Cant seem to find one and I’m one of the many that were skrewed when buying the full price CE and not getting a free download of Vol. 2 now, when the much much cheaper CE now comes with a free Vol. 2 download? Or if one of you could pm me and email me the soundtrack that would be very kind. I can send you Desecration, the CE only track

Amen, 117 is probaly the only song that beats Marty O’Donnell’s songs!

Its not that expensive, just buy it…

I agree, Kazuma Jinnouchi did a much better job than Neil Davidge. Kazuma’s themes were clear and direct (though not nearly as good as Marty’s work) while Neil’s music was pretty much a vague and unintelligible mess of sci-fi sounds.

Neil and Kazuma did a really good job on the music,
I really like to galaxy extended.
I also liked Stephen Rippy.
Marty is good with his original themes yes.

I agree with OP that Kazuma should become primary composer for Halo. While he is obviously not as good a composer as Martin O’Donnell or Michael Salvatori, he is far better than Neil. Neil Davidige has a few good songs, such as Arrival, but Kazuma has more good songs than him.

Agreed. He has a much better grasp of what Halo should sound like. Neil’s music sounds a little generic.

However, hopefully we never get a repeat of the music at the start of Composer, up to the Halo Theme. That made me cringe so hard.

I personally think Neil is good at creating the atmospheric, emotional, and mysterious sounds while Kazuma is better at creating more action and epic themes. They need each other.

This game easily had the potential to have the best soundtrack in-game, if only it was implemented better/the campaign was longer.

sorry double post, meant to edit

Yes, yes, YES, YES! I’m in full support and fully agree

That dude is amazing.

Kazuma Jinnouchi and Neil Davidge have both done a phenomenal job with Halo 4. I would prefer to see them both collaborate because they both bring different things to the table. As it was pointed out, Kazuma Jinnouchi knows how to play “classic” themes and give us something we know but Neil is great at giving us these crazy alien sci-fi themes, which I think fit in perfect with the Forerunner. I think we’ll continue to get the best by having them continue to work together.

The music is great, but I just can’t help but feel that many of the songs don’t fit Halo.

I’m used to hearing the guitar, drums, orchestra and monks when I think of Halo music. However, Halo 4 just seems a lot more techno, and it seems the guitars and chanting got the back seat. I really hope they create some more classic songs in Halo 5, and use them abundantly. The music didn’t seem as audible during gameplay too, which sucks because you can’t alter audio settings.

Even if it’s not that expensive, I don’t need to waste money on something I originally deserve free. I got ripped off, and I blew a lot of money “supporting the new artists” when vol. 1 came out by buying the CE, which was more than $75. I got backstabbed by -Yoink!-, as much as I love them, and I only want the soundtrack. 1, I can’t buy anything on the internet without my parents knowing, because I have to use their credit card. My mom said I should just torrent it when I explained this predicament to her, because my parents are always telling me to save up my money for “something important”, and they get mad if “I waste it on crap”. So, my point is if there’s no physical CD, and I deserve it free in the first place, I’d like to get it free. I already “supported” the new artists, (Niel and Kazuma) with PLENTY of money. If people are buying the same exact “limited, individually personalized packages customized by artist Neil Davidge himself, with a limited run of 5000 Collector’s Editions” 6 months after the game is out, when the stupid avatar code shouldn’t be with the CE anymore, it still is, and the whole “package” is the same, and now people that save $50 on it are getting the same things, AND a free download of Vol. 2. Why don’t the people who supported them first get a free download of Vol. 2? Because -Yoink!- voted for them against doing so. And why did they do that? Because they expected the die-hard musicans, the true supporters till the end to be ok with that and buy Vol. 2 anyways. That’s BS dude, I’m not a stupid idiot that’s gonna waste money where it shouldn’t be spent in the first place. They owe me a free Vol. 2, and theyre not gonna give it to me, so I need to try and find my own way to get one. It would be nice if you or someone else here on the forums decided to help me

I really liked this one.

As long as there more like this in Halo 5 I don’t care who does the composing.

He also did “Lasky’s Theme” which is probably my favorite song in the entire game.

> He also did “Lasky’s Theme” which is probably my favorite song in the entire game.

It’s in my tops fo shoo  But my favorite is between 117 (obviously lol), Revival, Mantis, Sacrifice, Arrival, Wreckage, Atonements(not the best here), Never Forget (Midnight Version), and Lasky’s Theme. Oh! And Requiem of course!

I really love the way Kazuma opened Lasky’s Theme. And Mantis is downright amazing. That’s probably my favorite track in the game if I think about it. After hearing Tridyrium’s version (“117 Pursuit Variant”) on YouTube for so long, the first time I played the song the beginning just added SO MUCH TO THE SONG! I was instantly smiling and awake, even though I had barely gotten an hour of sleep the night before due to homework. Requiem is absolutely beautiful. From the mysterious, slow and quiet opening, to the best part, - the revelation of the floating Forerunner constructs. The messo piano strings, with the powerful, blaring brass that just put so much power and emotion you get chills. ESPECIALLY if you go and hear the brass part alone for that one part. It is AMAZING. It was a small clip in the Making of Halo 4 Soundtrack video with the CE. (Also a YouTuber named Tridyrium has it posted, along with some other rips and sequences he ripped from the game not in the soundtracks, the FUD ost, and little clippets like this that are in the videos and stuff. He also has Vol. 1 and 2 uploaded, along with the extras. You should check him out.)

I remember the first time I saw that, around 2 A.M on Nov. 6. Even though I had heard the soundtrack multiple times before, I did not expect a reaction like the one I had. I felt chills go up and down my spine. 117 is amazing, I remember hearing it the first time while watching the video “The Magic of Halo 4” or something like that. Wow. I almost cried that song sounded so beautiful. And, I love Revival, because besides having a slow, mysterious, and yet powerful-presence feel to it, it finally unwinds towards the end when the choir begins to chant loudly compared to the rest of the song, and the strings, bass, and drums also kick in with it to cause a surprise feeling, kinda like something miraculous, but extremely dangerous just took place in front of you. This is truly a magnificent part. Ngl, the ending could have been better though  And same to Arrival, - Absolutely powerful, string oriented piece that blows my mind, but when you hear the (somewhat) random cutoff to end the song, it kinda kills it. And then you go and hear the Midnight version and wonder what the heck happened! Overall though, both soundtracks are great, and Vol. 2 is absolutely amazing!

He tried to actually make new versions of previous Halo tracks. Neil mostly went in a whole newish direction. I like them both though either way. Nemesis and Awakening are probably some of my favorites from Halo 4.
