By now a good majority of us fans have seen the new Halo Infinite gameplay reveal, and it’s giving off mixed feelings in the community. However if there is one thing we can all agree on it’s that the classic shotgun needs to be put into Halo Infinite. Don’t get me wrong the new Bulldog shotgun looks sick and even has a catchy name to it. However 343 made the same mistake with Halo 5 by changing the design of the rocket launcher and later receiving so much backlash they added the classic rocket launcher in as dlc. I and I would assume the vast majority of the community are all for a new shotgun, but don’t make it the replacement for a weapon that has been in every halo game since CE!

It’s not a replacement, it’s an addition
Right. If 343 want a shotgun with new utility or style, give it to the Scattershot, or some Banished weapon. But the Halo UNSC Shotgun is iconic.
What we saw today was just a taste. They’re not going to show off everything within the game. I’m sure our favorite weapons are still within the game, we just didn’t see em today. Stay positive and optimistic.

I know they arent gonna give us purely classic arsenal so I propose meeting at mutual ground. I say we get a system where we can pick which variation of classic weapons we want. It is a win for everyone. they would function the same no matter which variation you choose and it would make fans of any design happy. Think of it sort of like MCC halo CE and the brand new skin options. I think it could give everybody what they want while keeping everything balanced.

It’s actually a replacement, but I assume they will add the old one after backlash

I like how (correct me if Im wrong) the new shotty looks to be better slightly at range. However, the old shotty is so iconic it needs to return IMO.
This new shotgun needed 3 shots to kill an elite manor when the Halo 5 would have 1 shot it at that range.

As far as I can tell, that is IGN’s own words, not anything that was said by a 343 employee, as it wasn’t quoted like the rest of the article. The classic shotgun has also appeared in some of the mega blocks sets alongside this new version. I think 343 is planning on expanding the arsenal quite a bit, as the pistol used is also not called the magnum. Only time will tell though.

Hopefully, but if that’s the case, it was a poor choice of words…

But…why? What reason is there to trust that they are in the game? We’re talking about the same company that thought it was a good idea to drastically change the design of the Rocket Launcher in Halo 5 - arguably, Halo’s most recognisable weapon design.
343 have lost my bet for blind optimism, so it shouldn’t be surprised when fans are inquisitive about a game we still don’t know an awful lot about. If you’re going to show that you’re shaking things up, you should probably give a bit of stability to those at risk of falling over. At least with Halo 5, we could all see it was a level-based game, as had come before. It was a poor choice to not give greater context to the overall experience*,* to ease fans.

Are you really asking why you should stay positive and optimistic? 343 Industries experimented with some different ideas. They have their reasoning and I’m sure it’ll all make sense as time goes on.

And now you have the Spnkr and the new rocket launcher and they both function differently it was a very welcome addition in my opinion. Same as with the Bulldog shotgun, it is an addition, the regular shotgun is still there, they just have not shown all the arsenal yet.

Yeah, I am. I can remember Halo 5’s story and Hunt the Truth. I can remember the MCC launch. I can remember the absence of BTB, Forge, and Infection, to name a few, from Halo 5’s launch, with Infection being added literal months later.
I trust that they believe that they think what they’re doing is right, but I have reason from the past to disagree, and now be sceptical.

It shouldn’t have needed to be added back in the first place, and if it was their intention, in Halo 5, to have both, then both would have been there at launch. But they weren’t. So, why do I have any reason to believe that there’s two UNSC shotguns, at launch? I’m not going to be blindly optimistic, so will wait until we either see it, or it fails to appear.
You’re acting as though I’ve said it won’t be in the game, when all I’ve said is that I have reason to believe that it might not be in the game. They’re completely different things, with the former being wrong as we don’t yet know, and the other being based on evidence from previous experience.
CLASSIC SHOT GUN MUST RETURN TO ARMORY OR THE GAME> ITS ICONIC
Why would the UNSC switch from an 8-gauge to a 12-gauge while fighting Brutes?

I know that ign’s website, they call it a replacement and they also call the plasma burst gun a replacement to the carbine (if this is what made you think it’s a replacement) but I don’t think they’d replace it with the bulldog or the carbine with the burst as they know how iconic those weapons are. Also, the shotgun is on the cover of ‘shadows of reach’ which takes place before infinite so I doubt they’d bring attention to that weapon, only to say ‘sike’ and use a completely different design and type of shotgun.

This is also the company that has brought halo MCC and infinite to steam because that’s most people’s preferred platform. Also the company who decided to add reach to the mcc because we wanted them to and are adding ODST Firefight for the same reason. The company that had a drastic change of art style just so we’d be more happy. Can I just say that imagine how it must feel to have to say goodbye to your new take on halo and go back to someone else’s take because people don’t like your designs. All of these thing are in more recent history showing that they really are trying to please us so just give them some respect!
Why would people have a negative reaction to the Pilum when the SPNKr was hard to use realistically. You have to replace 80% of the thing to reload 2 rockets which is cumbersome and a poor design especially if you are someone smaller like a marine. Imagine doing live action or cosplays with it, you can’t but Pilum makes sense. It’s logical to replace the ammunition instead of the launcher.
Now for the topic at hand they really shouldn’t had added another shotgun. We already have 4 close range weapons, Halo 4 shotgun, Scattershot, Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer. This Bulldog rate of fire seems to be 0.5 seconds which is the same as the Scattershot while the shotgun is 1 second per shot, however the Bulldog is much weaker as I previously said. It has no place in the sandbox, it is redundant. Halo 4 shotgun looks better than it.
