Seriously, with as much as I see black screen because of host migration, they need to put Pac Man or some -Yoink- on there. Take note 343, if you can’t fix the issues, at least put a band-aid on it.
Actually, I believe that loading screen mini-games are copyrighted by some other company. Seeing as a Black Screen could be considered a loading screen, well…
I get out my phone and play games on it during black screens. Same thing.
I pull out my tablet and jump on the Waypoint forums between games and during black screen.
Although, a mini-game would be pretty fun. UNSC arcade classics like Big Game Moa Hunting, Drop Pod Minesweeper, Sgt. Stacker Pinball…just to name a few.
Sparta360, I don’t think you’ll be seeing a black screen mini game any time soon. I also wouldn’t want them to put a band aid on the problem. I would rather just have them fix the problem to begin with. Since that’s not going to happen and black screens it seems will also be a thing with Halo. I would go with Vektor0 and iTrentz and just bust out a phone our tablet. Spartan Assault is a thing.
You people that are complaining to have the “problem” “fixed” need to take a basic networking course.
As far as a black screen mini-game, I think it would be super cool. Just throw up some Snake or Space Invaders with 8-Bit Covenant sprites or something.

The fix is to choose a reliable host the first time.
“All of man’s troubles come from his inability to sit quietly in a room by himself.”
I’d like to amend that quote:
“All of man’s troubles come from his inability to sit quietly in a room by himself, without several screens constantly delivering his demand for instant and constant media gratification.”
I use the black screen to ponder the real existential questions that we all think (if we ever allow ourselves to think, i.e. not being glued to a TV, phone, tablet, computer, etc.) like this one:
“Will my consciousness live on after death or will it be like it was before I was born? I wonder if … what? Husky Raid AGAIN!!! Come on people! Why not Fiesta Classic?”
that was a lot of effort for a stupid hypocritical joke
I usually watch the Daily Show or something on my laptop while the game is loading.
If they put a mini-game on the host migration blackscreen, then people will get upset when the mini-game is interrupted once the blackscreen goes away.

A lot of implications, here. They can do nothing about:
- Host leaving the game.
- Host being slammed by sudden traffic spikes in apartment complexes.
- Host’s family/roommates coming home during the game and having all of their mobile devices hit the Wi-Fi at the same time.
- Same scenario plus said family/roommates getting on laptops, etc.
There’s not much you can do about it. They can, however, migrate host so someone with a better connection gets it mid-game, instead of having to sit through the rest of the game in mind-numbing lag.
I wouldn’t mind seeing something similar to the Assassins Creed series.
Where you can run around a little while things are loading up.

There are some things that could be improved, though. The host-record method (rather than best-connection method) of determining the host does not work. All it guarantees is that brand-new players pull host, even if they are on a wireless 3G MiFi with a spotty connection and tons of latency (which is me). I had to subject other players to hours of crappy gaming before the game decided I was unreliable enough to stop giving me host.
In my experience with H4, bad hosts (not host leaving or sudden traffic spikes) are the biggest cause of black screens. Based on the first ten seconds of play, you can pretty reliably predict whether you’ll have a black screen at least once during play.
I have no problem with the host-record supplementing the host choice, but they went way too far with it.
