Puritists vs Heretics: Your stand on Halo 5 so far

The forums are both riddled with “remove sprint/thrust/clamber” threads made by Puritists reminiscing about the old days, back in halo’s prime, or Heretics, exited about the future of Halo’s MP, greeting the change arguing that the game should evolve to keep the series alive. What do you guys think? Are you a puritist or a heretic? Post in the comments below why.

EDIT: I’m a halo middle child. I played 2 very young, 3, ODST, and reach being my most played halos. I already understand both stances of the franchise, and in my personal opinion halo 5 is a halo game, and just because you like/dislike it makes nobody a fanboy/veteran/noob, nor does it make the game call of duty just because you’re upset things aren’t going your way. If you’re upset I recommend you contact 343i and let them know there’s a large part of the population who miss the classic halo and see if you can get classic playlists for the upcoming halo.

I think 343 should have just started their own new video game franchise instead of trying to CODify Halo.

BUT if they must continue then they need to bring back the 1-50. That’s all. Their new ranking system is horrible. The 1-50 is proven to work. I don’t even care about sprint or SAs (Although Spartan pound is really stupid) or AR being strong I just want a good addicting working ranking system

That’s something I think everyone could agree on. Though I think the ground pound is -Yoinking!- awesome imo. To each their own.

I’m not in either category

I realise and understand halo needs to change and progress
I just would like to see any changes/additions be good for halo and strengthen gameplay

Given the two options I am a Heretic.

I am too old and have been gaming for too long to squabble and bicker about small stuff. If the game is fun, and entertains, and follows the progression logically (in the case of sequels) I welcome the change and give it a shot as it is meant to be played. In my experiences- it is never a good deal to hold something on a pedestal… Nothing will be able to replace your pinnacle and you will always be found wanting. Comparing current vs classic, too many emotions, too much jade to get an accurate reading…

It just doesn’t fit. Like one ability makes you run. Another makes you climb. One is a jetpack thing and then all of a sudden the 4th makes you hover mid air like a demon and fly to the ground in a superman pose. LOL Just no

Purists are heretics. Their definitely one of the most detrimental groups of people in the Halo community.

This

I don’t mind 343 going in a new direction but they didn’t do that with Halo 4. They removed core Halo elements and replaced then with CoD elements.

Halo 5 feels like it’s own game now. The important core elements like fighting over power weapons are kept but I love the additions like thrust, clambering, and smart scope.

I guess I’m a heretic.

I loved Halo 2 and 3 but the weapon sandboxes in that game were seriously broken by the BR.

With AR starts, every weapon becomes useful and awesome. I love it.

With BR starts, I feel like I’m playing a slightly better version of Halo 4 but it doesn’t feel as fun.

So yeah, I’m a heretic. Keep the fun stuff but new and tactical innovations are welcome.

I didn’t say the animation was pretty xD but maaaannn it’s satisfying flying straight towards someone and watching them get squashed. I think it’s even funny.

With evolution there are multiple paths something can evolve. It isn’t just limited to one path.

Halo 2 and Halo Custom Edition are both “evolutions” of Halo Ce taking place in the same exact era. Halo Custom Edition has several separate evolutions of its own, one map can have a radically different sandbox and gameplay than another map.

Nor does “evolve” imply that something is better. It just implies something has changed. Contrary to popular belief, the two aren’t synonymous.

I’m not going to say that the game needs to evolve to survive. I would say that I don’t consider all evolution to be bad, nor does hating one path of evolution mean I hate all possible paths.

All that said, “evolve” is an annoying buzzword and I wish people would stop using it.

I’ll drink to that.
Seriously though, heretics and purists now? That’s a bit ridiculous. It’s as if you’re trying to make Halo a religion.

I guess trying to keep a franchise’s identity is a bad thing these days. Let’s just add rocket launchers to The Elder Scrolls and make Civilization a real time strategy, I mean, those are popular things, and a series needs to absolutely change everything about itself, right?

Nah, I’m just referencing the heretic elites who broke off from the covenant and using it as an extreme to help people weigh pros & cons.

Gameplay: Heretic, though some things need to be worked on here and there.

Cosmetics and sound effects: Purist, I like most of the new ascetics and sounds, but I definitely don’t want them to replace the originals - which they have.

Heretic. Halo has constantly changed since day one and people hated Halo 2 and 3 when they came out. The Nostalgia Filter that many purists have is aggravating.

I miss the older sounding announcer dearly.

I hate several aspects of Halo 3 even to this day, and listing off all the things I hate would be effortless for me.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t things I like about Halo 3 as well.

I loved most of halo 3. It was (unfortunately) my first halo I actually owned, though I played halo 2 a bit when I barely knew how to move.

Point I’m setting here is I’ve played literally every halo title, including halo wars, and besides that one, I’ve liked every halo. My favorites start on Reach, going down to 3, ODST, 2, CE, and four being my least favorite. I think if halo 5 heads in the direction it’s going it’ll snag itself a tie with 3. I like the evolution of the game, but I don’t hate the older things or think that they should be changed either.

I like the way you think sir.
“Prestiging” and all that is just straight bullshxt.
