I know that title sounds like -Yoink!- Conditioning but its not, so listen up.
In almost every game in Reach there is a Quitter. Was this happening in Halo 3? HELL NO! And you know why, its because there was something to stay for. In Halo 3 you had to stay because if you left you risk losing rank. Losing Rank = lose 2 Hours of progress. In Halo Reach if you quit you what, get banned for 10 minutes? Getting banned is never fun but, I can forge or play firefight while banned so whatever.
But I think if losing rank was combined with losing credits and getting banned, quitting would go down to 0%. I know all that sounds harsh so this could only happen if you Quit about 5 times in a row. Or 10 times over the course of an Hour.
This could be the solution to Quitting, or just an angry fan with an evil idea. But that is up to you guys.

quitting will NEVER go down to 0, that’s just a dream and nothing more.
the best way for 343 to reduce the amount of quitting is to make the game fun, this way they’ll actually want to play the game and won’t see any reason to quit.

Hmp, maybe so. That and this would definitely make Quitting got to at least 15%.

Quitting is because people don’t like losing
Thats about it
People quit because of imbalance and annoying players.

Most of the situations in Reach for people quitting is connection based issues. Not because of losing though that does occur too.

Rule 2X, as a developer - Try to find alternative means to give players a reason to stay. Reach is a credit based system, leaving the match for any reason means forfeit of those credits and not moving towards your next rank.

Could work. Though losing one’s rank is too harsh in my opinion, but losing credits for quitting? As long as the amount is fair. Like losing all the credits you would normally get excluding slot machine numbers being subtracted. You quit a match, therefore you lose a match worth’s of credits.

some of the best games I’ve ever played were ones I’ve lost, even though a lot of people don’t like losing thats because they’re immature.
I disagree, I’ve seen people quit in Halo 3 quite often, even before Reach came out. People are just selfish, so they just quit and abandon their teammates.
How do we solve this? Easy, if someone quits once, then they can’t play matchmaking for 10 minutes. If they quit again in the same day, they lose 10 minutes and some cR/Spartan Points.
The worst are the ones that quit before game even starts because they didn’t get the map they wanted.
then game starts, and because there is bit more of challenge to win the game more players start quitting.
By the way they are sometimes the best games to play more satisfaction in being out numbered and getting the win or even just pushing the other team right to the end
Agreed. The quit ban causes a lot of people to come to the forums and complain, but it doesn’t seem to be making anyone want to stop quitting.
Take a huge chunk of credits from anyone who quits and they won’t be doing it again any time soon.
I generally don’t like quitters altogether. You’d only quit if you’ve got a rubbish team on your side against a full party full of experienced players IF you’re getting completely destroyed on that game.

one quit then a 10 minute ban, ridiculous.
if they quit it counts as a loss anyway.

It has gone a bit too far I admit “1 quit: 10 minute ban”… I think if they quit at least 3 times within a day; then they get a 10 minute ban from multiplayer. If they do it again, then they get put on probation for a week. Then if they still quit, then they get banned for a week. After that; if they still quit, then they get banned permanently.
But if they take the 1 week probation and still quit, then they get another probation for 2 weeks e.g. Baseball; 3 strikes, then your out for good. Y’know? That seems fair enough right? If you get disconnected at least twice or quit at least twice; then they shouldn’t carry on playing matchmaking for that day… If they quit twice and wait for a day; then their strikes will be reset.
Every consequence a quitter takes; their strikes will reset no matter what consequence they are on e.g. probation.
People need to be punished for quitting
Otherwise its going to get REALLY REALLY OUT OF HAND.
The joining mid game is being implemented to try and fix the problem NOT MAKE IT OK TO QUIT
They need to lose xp or credits – its will cut down quitting but NOT STOP IT.
I agree that quitters do need to be punished but if were going to have a similar ranking system to Reach I don’t think that taking away credits and ranks will help all that much. Personally, I couldn’t give 2 -Yoink- about my rank in Reach and it wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit if I quit enough to go all the way down to the lowest rank, I’m assuming alot of other people will feel the same way.
Taking away credits/spartan points could do the trick though. If you interfere with people earning and buying their upgrades they might realize that quitting is bad, mkay.
Ugh, I have nightmares from the last thread about quitting punishments.
In other news, I keep reading “-Yoink!-” in Brad Pitt’s voice from that one movie. -Yoink!-. Nnnnnnnazi.
It’s just a game - have fun. You could try seeking an angry Doctor for your aggresion (jk).
I remember people regularly quitting on me back in Halo 3. That was annoying.
I also remember the occasional internet failure that logged my internet hiccup as a quit.
I agree. Bring back the Halo 3 quit system!
