Punic class supercarrier

So we don’t know much about the except that they’re arm to the teeth and are the lead ships of the unsc fleet. The unsc trafalgar flagship of epsilon eridanus fleet was taken out by a covenant sniper ship and there was a last stand by one of them at the colony of estuary i’m pretty sure it might had taken out a couple of ships but i wanna know if they were effective during the war.I mean they have 2 super mac cannons, mini mac’s at the sides so boarding and strafing are almost impossible,i would imagine that at the right conditions they might make a considerable dent on a covenant fleet.

I read somewhere that they were deployed specifically for combating Covenant ships, and were one of the only ships effective in this role. Those two MACs are two light warships gone in a single salvo, so I’m sure they would be very effective in naval engagements. Also, their sheer size may allow them to survive a few hits from plasma torpedos.

The Punic class supercarriers were originally developed to deal with the expected escalation of the Insurrection by being the be all and end all of UNSC dominance in a system. When the Human Covenant war started because of their tonnage, the fact that they house two orbital platform grade Super MACs, scores of Mini MACs, hundreds of missile pods and CIWS, dozens of squadrons and carried two heavy frigates underslug, allowed them to directly engage most Covenant ships successfully. They have the ability to take significant amount of damage and still remain combat effective while coordinating and supporting attacks from relative safe distance.

However, for every one of these ships that were lost meant some of the best captains and crews went down with them. Their size meant that they couldn’t be replaced quickly and with the constant advance of the Covenant meant that raw materials were shriking and couldnt be readily allocated to build more of them. Also by the time of Reach, the Covenant had come up with tactics to counter the threat of a Punic, as seen with the sniping carrier they used.

Post war, we dont know much about these ships beyond the fact they aren’t the big sticks anymore with the Infinity now holding that title. I would say that the UNSC still has which ever ones survived the war and are/should be building a replacement or updated variation to the class, using all the post war technologies like energy sheilds, more powerful MACs and missiles, improved slipspace drives etc. Just have to wait for Halo Fleetlands to see if that is the case.

I would imagine they can go toe to toe with cruisers, destroyers etc and be a better match to assault carriers

Halo: Warfleet (if that’s what VerbalStatue253 is referring to) is scheduled for release on September 15, 2017.

Don’t MOST UNSC ships look like giant floating blocks?
Not even Infinity is immune to it.
Comes from having to mount the MAC dorsally I guess
