Melee punching is pretty bad, I can go for a few games without even getting a single melee punch, and for good reason; IMHO it sucks, big time.
I’ve been killed by a sword more often than I’ve been punched to death, we need a decent melee lunge that is accurate, I’ve gone in for melee’s that are nearly point-blank range and I missed for some odd reason, other times I’ve hit them but did no damage.
Its come to the point where I don’t even bother punching because the chances of it not working are not worth it.
I’ve been above someone and about to land a melee to assassinate them but they’ve thrown a melee (that I even see) into thin air, it either hits thin air or a wall but still kills me. Absolutely obsurd! They don’t need to even look at you on other occassions, the auto aim spins them around. Incredibly frustrating and needs work.
The sword is even worse with the range. Sword needs toning down, the lunge is ridiculous and the animation!? What animation!?!? It previously did but now it’s instant teleportation - don’t blink. It’s quite pathetic and detracts from Halo so much. I’ve encountered it twice where an enemy has the sword but swung about 5ft away, hit the wall and it’s killed me. Caught it on DVR as I couldn’t believe what I was seeing live but also on the killcam. So wrong 343, so very wrong!

What map was that broken sword on? Apparently on the night map (Eden) it’s just an ordinary Energy Sword. On Truth it’s the Prophet’s Bane which apparently is the Arbiter’s personal sword. Prophet’s Bane apparently has a stat benefit in increased range and movement speed. This is why you can dominate with the sword on truth and suck on Eden.
On topic: I think basic melee could benefit from a small lunge enhancement. It’s difficult to land a hit with all the new maneuver features. The boost melee seems to only work if you boost forward into someone. Not sure if that’s by design or not…
The camera during the landing of the ground pound makes it hard to tell if you’re landing SHOULD have killed the opponent or not. 60% of the time I just strip their shields and launch them into the air. By the time I recover and aim they’ve already hosed me well enough to have a shot of winning.

You can ADS with sword for a super long range, it’s not that bad really, if you have an AR you can melt people, it’s just harder with a BR because they’re so inaccurate in close quarters. I would suggest using your pistol for CQB fights.
Additionally you should try and guess where the enemy is with sword, they often lone wolf it so try and nade them and head shot, but the sword lunge must be like 7 meters long it feels, I use the sword a lot, but without it the range the weapon would be utterly useless.
Staring the swordsman in the face? Time your thrust (left/right) perfectly it leaves them vulnerable to your pistol or preferably smg/ar. For years I’ve longed for this kind of ability to counter sword strikes in close quarters. Once they’re down smack em on the head for good measure. Good hunting
There needs to be a slight increase to the melee range. At the moment it is way to little. Im not saying there should an extravagant amount of lunge added, but just a littlehit.
