Can you not melee a spartan boarding a friendly Scorpion? I have a clip of punching a boarder 4 times, and nada.
When a player Spartan model gets into larger vehicles, I believe there is a moment of time where either their hitbox combines with the vehicle or they receive an IF (invincibility frame) which is the point of time in which you can not inflict damage purely because they are interacting with something and have no control over their player model.
But that is just a theory on my part.
