Pulse Grenade Mechanics

Are these just terrible or do I not understand their mechanics? Getting a double kill with these is ridiculous… its just pure luck more or less, coming across the right opportunity at this point.

yea this one is rough… don’t get me wrong i love the diversity in weaponry, but this one is terrible… the only way i know to use it is throwing it where your enemy wants to be, and then your dead… bc they either used the superior plasma, or they just stop where their at and shoot right through it… other than the binary and incineration cannon, the forerunner weaponry makes me miss brutes so much…

I cant agree more. I dont think ive ever died to one and i know ive never killed anyone with them.

I use them a lot, I love 'em. They seem to do ~3/4 to a full shield’s worth of damage with their initial blast, followed by minor sapping damage, followed by another pulse of the same damage.
If you want a quick headshot kill, throw one directly at their feet and follow up with a bullet to their face. Works like a charm.

As for getting kills with the grenades proper, then you’re best off using Explosives and Grenadier packages, and doing one of the following;

  1. Weaken them to about half shields (probably best to use the AR, SR, Suppressor or PP) and let loose afterwards.
  2. Play FFA and hope for a group of players to convene so you can chuck one or two into the fray.
  3. Play KoTH and do the same.
  4. (rare) Look for a really badly damaged enemy Warthog and let rip for an easy double kill.

General tip: use damage boost as much as possible, it makes Pulse Grenades so much more deadly.
Remember, the acheivement only requires you to get both kills with Pulse Grenades, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be simultaneous kills.

there pretty hard to accually get a kill with however for taking some ones sheilds down they are amazing

I have gotten kills with the Pulse Grenade but not a double. Its annoying.

They do most of their damage at either the beginning burst or the end burst. If you catch pretty much any part of them in the bubble they will be very weak (1 or 2 shot cleanup), and if they are weak they will get killed by either burst.

The thing about pulse grenades is that your placement has to be spot on as it will activate upon striking on any surface. You have to be careful with your placement in order to do the maximum damage to your target.

I got a double kill with a pulse grenade the day before the Majestic maps were released. ._.

Anyway, I actually really like the pulse grenades, primarily because (1) they explode on impact, and (2) they are especially useful for snagging your opponent’s shielding. It’s getting a kill with the grenade itself that can be a little tricky.

  1. Use Explosives with your pulse 'nades, if only to concentrate on getting the achievement.

  2. The pulse explodes on impact, that is its strength and weakness. Your use of it should be by trapping the enemies with a pair of them in a corner, corridor or within a hill with “perfectly” placed 'nades.

  3. I kid you not, run into a group, melee 2 enemies, toss a pulse at your feet and you may get what you’re looking for. Not how I did it per say but I know it’s doable as I have done it. :slight_smile:

Kinda what everyone else was saying, it’s a different kind of grenade, it explodes far faster than any of the other grenades, and with more precision because it doesn’t bounce/roll, and you can use it for map control because most people won’t run through an active pulse (so useful for objective, or a tactical retreat etc.). So what you do for actual kills with it is use it to finish someone off, I like to keep one for when I run out of ammo right as I took most of someone’s shields down, and then clean them up with a pulse (instant explosion means instant kill).

Ffa is probably your best bet for the double kill one, try to find a couple people who just melee’d each other, or got close to each other with weak shields (koth might work too, sometimes those get quite a few people trying to cqc each other).

Extraction…

Like many have suggested, I feel that FFA is the best place to do the achievement.

Catch a group of people in a battle (make sure its in a corner or place they can’t move easily). Wait for them to weaken each other and/or go in for melee kills.

If you’ re lucky, you may catch some weakened ones at the start of an assassination animation. Thats how I got mine.

If all else fails, I think this and the other achievements can be done in customs with the Infinity Rumble playlist, so you can grab some friends or idle controllers and do it.

Not that hard me and my bro got it after a few days when the maps were released and we suck. Use grenade mods and perks.

Don’t necessarily have to play free for all, the objectives with teams leads people to cluster, say on KOTH or regicide.

Also extraction is good near the beginning when the enemy is going to cluster around captures. Run to the one closest to them and chuck both grenades.

Unique and useful grenades depending on the situation they can be deadly if used at the right time.

I do however wish they took more inspiration from the Halo 3 Power Drain and EMP’d vehicles as well or atleast stuck to vehicles that were in use would make them that much more unique.

Anyone hit by a pulse grenade with their shields down are automatically killed.

I like pulse grenades. Throw them at your victim’s or victims’ feet and it’s like an overheated plasma pistol shot. If you throw it right at your victim’s feet and they are caught in the initial blast then their shields are depleted all the way and are free for you to kill.
