Pulse Carbine looks iffy?

Hey Insiders!

I’m sure like me, everyone who got invited is excited to get in and play. What strikes me is the pulse carbine. Everything they have shown makes it seem wildly inaccurate at anything but shotgun range.

Anyone else concerned with it?

Idk yet seemed OK to me not great but just OK i planned on trying it out.

It is a good question, I feel like it is a little iffy, but it’s not supposed to be great either.

I was hoping it would be a bit more reliable. In the first showing it looked like a very tight-grouped fast-moving plasma burst where you could reasonably land your shots at long range if you lead properly. But ever since they changed it to large, slow, tracking plasma globs my interest in the weapon dropped. I wanted something that felt like a hybrid of utility and plasma, like a plasma weapon you could realistically actually use as your primary weapon, where the skill gap came from appropriately leading your shots as opposed to getting a final headshot. Instead it looks more like a sort of floaty, unreliable gun at longer ranges.

The name and appearance implies it is a variant of the carbine, but it really looks more like a burst plasma rifle. I do not mind it being the way it is because it is nice to see enemies weapons with slow projectile speeds again, but it might fall into a category of a weapon that is only good for a niche AI role. In the end, the good thing about Halo is that if a weapon is too weak to the point of uselessness, you can just ignore it haha. I am sure balance patches will come out later, but we need to see everything with our own hands first.

The pulse carbine and the Heatwave look awesome. But it seems like they are lacking some oumf or some punch

I guess I’ll find out tomorrow, but it seems like it would be better if they just removed any spread from the pulse carbine and give it faster projectiles(just faster, not hitscan) rather than having another homing weapon. The issue with homing weapons being you can’t really make them too effective due to the fact that they are homing weapons.

Alternatively you could make pulse carbine shots “wire-guided” ala something like a tow missile where the player controls the projectile’s direction, that would give the pulse carbine some ranged support potential while still being limited by slower projectiles.

Honestly, I just think much of the footage we’ve seen has been at varying ranges and skill ranges.

Up close, it’s tracking is super strong and it’ll be a great melee-cleanup weapon. Far away, you might as well switch weapons. It’s just like the plasma rifle, minus the awesome stun mechanic. I think it’ll be fine

I usually like to test things myself before I make a judgment.

Yep… need to get handsy with it.

As long as it’s effective at the range it’s designed for… whatever that is… all is good.
