Pull & hold the left trigger to zoom-in?

Clicking on thumb stick to zoom-in is prone to error, accidently clicking/zooming-in when you’re trying to make a sharp turn and, therefore, blindly running into the wall while being stuck in a scope view…only to get killed.

Clench protection introduced by Bungie in Halo Reach wasn’t a complete remedy since it still happens when you’re in a hectic firefight.

So how about an option to pull & hold the left trigger to zoom-in? It’s error-free and it doesn’t wear down the thumb stick. Everyone wins!

There is, use the Fishsticks control scheme. It’s the Call of Duty layout.

I know I’ll get flamed heavily for this, but perhaps another indication to them trying to lure in CoD fans?

No I think they just try to offer as many styles as possible

Only problem I can imagine is trying to double zoom with the sniper.

You seriously need to have a good long hard look at how you use your thumbsticks.

Even when I’m using a many year old and worn out controller I have never accidentally zoomed in while trying to aim at someone.

Green Thumb. Been great to me for years. Problem solved.

I would totally use this “fishstick” layout if it weren’t for one problem; I’m spoiled by “bumper jumper!”

Surely by Halo 5 we’ll be able to fully customize our layouts…right???

This entire button layout thing is the one thing about Halo 4 that I hate almost everything about. Its not that they’ve opened the styles for more people from different games to join in, its that they’ve changed the standard format for all the other schemes to follow and differ from. The fact that Sprint by default is on a stick and Crouch is on B is a mockery.

The fact that there is only one scheme that follows the classic standard is atrocious. There should be at least two. There should be Recon, and Classic. Also, since this one change that has thrown the entire system in to the gutter, there should be a button swap option, where we can swap two particular buttons, its not custom mapping, just swapping two particular buttons that two groups of the community would disagree on, e.g. if I was using Recon and I want Sprint on LB or RB I should be able to do that, but it wouldn’t go to any other buttons.

I think Halo’s fishsticks control scheme is different from what I want, Call of Duty style.

Main difference is that zooming in Fishstick I believe is “toggle”, where as Call of Duty style zooming is “hold”.

At least for me, “hold” is less prone to error/mistake than “toggle” function. Plus, it’s faster and more convenient to hold and release to zoom in & out quickly. I’m not trying to say they should replace the current control scheme but rather additional options would be nice.

And, of course we all want fully customizable control scheme for Halo 5. If Valve can do it, so can you 343 right?

That would create a problem with the 2-level zoom of the Sniper Rifle.

EDIT: Actually, the feature is in every Halo game already. If you hold down the zoom button, you will automatically zoom out once you release.

Really? Hmm…I’m sure it was toggle rather than hold & release but since you pointed it out, I’ll definitely try that with Halo4. Thanks for the tip.

The thing is, it’s a toggle AND a hold/release. If you tap the button, it’s a toggle. But if you hold it, the gun stays zoomed until you release. So you get the best of both worlds. You won’t be able to get crazy-quickscope-quickunscopes though.

What kind of person accidentally zooms in when trying to turn?

My girlfriend, who has literally played maybe 4-5 hours of halo, ever, does not have this problem. Because it’s not a problem.

What is with all these dumb-as-bricks threads lately? “CORTANA IS HOT” and now this?

GoW uses left trigger and it is pretty good  but I dunno if I could throw my grenades with any other button…not in Halo xD

I agree though that sometimes when you’re IN scope, and someone close starts shooting, I automatically go to zoom out, thus ending up back in zoom =/

Why would you think LT would be a toggle? Makes much more sense to have it as hold to zoom, not to mention possibly even easier to scope/unscope if you’re also fighting people close to you.

Am i the only one laughing at how different the fish-stick control scheme is from the rest? Everything is everywhere!

EDIT:Sorry double post. Seriously waypoint… Let me know if my post actually got posted for once -_-. Cant believe i’m still getting these error messages.
