PSA Twitter from SKE7CH - Flights

> As we are all eager and increasingly impatient, just a friendly PSA this is a technical test at a scale unlike anything we’ve done to date. Driven by production. Not a game launch. Things are proceeding but there are many steps to navigate.
>
> Also a great scale test for our systems as we’ve seen Waypoint load dramatically increasing. Team has already been able to work out additional deployments but it’ll likely get bumpy when everyone slams the site for their messages, please bear with us.
>
> I worry that folks who aren’t able to handle the unpredictability of this release timing and who are getting outright angry, already have the wrong expectations going into a technical preview. There will be hiccups.
>
> And for our friends outside of the U.S. - this is all intentionally designed around our time zone. Our team is based here. It’s the reality of our business and this isn’t a game launch. We hope you understand.
>
> We’ve all waited ~6 years, hang in there. Folks are working incredibly hard, hitting new issues and overcoming then, and moving through the process. This is exactly why we flight. Thank you for your support and understanding!

> Update: At this exact moment, the team is working through an issue that required rebuilding/re-deploying/re-verifying dedicated servers. This takes time and then, if it’s looking good, we hopefully are a go. Would def be worse if we’d released then found this out. More to come.

> Update 2: Flight log, day 117: The initial fix for the issue didn’t work as expected. After further investigation a new approach was implemented and is being tested. Unsure if it will require another full re-deployment, awaiting test pass completion. This is why we flight.

> Update 3: We are proceeding with a full global server re-deploy as part of this fix, which will take time. As soon as we get USWest online we can start prelim testing there in parallel. Team is working nonstop, as fast as they can. Our “afternoon” PT target is pushing into “evening.”

This whole thing is clearly quite difficult for them, they’re probably working in a highly stressful environment right now and they’re clearly working through some things. So please bear that in mind before you form opinions and start complaining. Let’s not forget they are taking a player first approach and we get to experience so much of this game early by either playing or watching our favourite streamers and YouTubers. Please be respectful to 343 everyone.

I figured Halo Waypoint was on the verge of crashing. My phone won’t allow me to log in. My PC was already logged in. So, not a huge worry. But the Authentication Services are buckling from the huge influx of users. No notes of a delay though. And it is only 2:30 in Washington. We have plenty of time. I am excited and am ready to wait as long as needed.

We waited a full year. What is one more day if it is needed to push this thing out the door in a proper fashion?

Lot of love for 343

Take your time guys, we´ll be ready when you are.

Echoing what he said, it’s understandable that people are excited to get their hands on Halo Infinite and there are probably a ton of newcomers to the flighting process. In this day and age we are used to trying out game betas that are basically just demos of nearly finished games. This is different.

This is a technical test. We are invited to be here to help 343 test their servers and technology.

Hopefully we have some fun doing it, but frankly that’s not the point of it. The point of it is to help them test.

You will encounter bugs. Things will not all go according to plan. It will probably not be a smooth experience.

If you can’t handle a rough experience, wait until the game is actually finished. For the rest of us, let’s be patient and help constructively test the game. That is why we have been asked to participate.

I hope they take their time and roll things out smoothly. I also hope these flights provide the type of feedback they are seeking, we don’t want another MCC fiasco.

Keep up the great work. Some people understand that you are working hard.

I figured this would happen. It’s all good, @343i. I don’t mind waiting. Never have.

Wake me… when you need me.

Im just listening to youtibe and sphere grid farming in ffx as i wpuld have been doing if there was no flight.

No problem waiting. I am kinda excited and trying to be patient, but still. Take your time 343

Ah maybe tomorrow for me. Take your time 343i

I wish more people could be as understanding… I get the dislike people had for Halo 4, or Halo 5, or MCC’s launch or heck the “new stuff” they’re adding to the game even now… But it makes me cringe when I see “lol I knew they’d screw up they’re hopeless can’t do anything right” posts on Twitter, Waypoint, etc because of this delay.
Further, Ske7ch here isn’t trying to hide something, or make excuses, he’s pointing out what I figured would happen when they tried to do such a monumental task. “Launch Day Issues” except for a tech test.

Further update I didn’t see posted:

I completely agree, I know 343 has worked their butts off for the Halo community.

Thank you, I will update the original post.

It’s really only on us, specifically those in the community that anticipated a start time, just because they have a scheduled time for the weekend didn’t mean it would start at those times TODAY. I’m thankful for having been chosen, it’s been awhile since I’ve participated in a flight, and if (and when) that invitation arrives in my email, I’ll be ready to contribute.

Thanks, 343.

Thanks for the heads up

Yowch! the amount of Spartans I have seen here and there throughout the forms makes me sad I’ve been up since 9am my time waiting, I understand its frustrating but I hope people understand 343 is doing its best and I’m sure everyone is on edge about this whole thing.

I just personally cant wait to get my hands on it and see how it all feels!

Hoping to see some fellow Spartans out there tonight!

Besides all you´re saying guys, and as someone else point it out here, this is a technical preview, there are gonna be a lot of problems presumably, authenticating, or getting into the match, or even launching the game.

And is completely normal. Unfortunately a bunch of people is gonna stumble internet with dumb post and twitts claiming disaster, I just feel sorry for whoever is on the other side of the screen at 343i. Don´t take this -Yoink- seriously, guys, you´re doing great.

Thanks 343i

I’m trying to be positive about all these new people excited to get into the flight, because the overwhelming interest in Halo is a good thing, but geez marketing has ruined tests like this for some people expecting this to be a beta or whatever.

The “beta” thing is especially annoying because these days to the average user that may as well mean demo. Hence 343i’s terminology change and clear explanation of these terms multiple times, and clear goal setting, and yet people still say “beta” in reference to this. And if you try to correct them (which thank god I haven’t even gave that effort yet) it’ll just fall on deaf ears.

In my opinion 343i have been completely transparent and set expectations accordingly, but there are complaints out there that aren’t even valid.

Glad I went back to bed and got some sleep then instead of waiting up. I suspected this was going to happen.

So you’re saying if they did like a lot of people are wanting and rushed it out the door it’d have been worse?! Who’d have thought :B
See, this is why I kept thinking “Patience guys, patience…” to myself seeing all these posts about why isnt it ready yet, particularly the ones accusing them of ‘rushing this’.

The fact they’re are trying to slow it down to get it stable is a good thing!
