PSA: Put down the controller

For the second time since I’ve had Halo 5 I’ve been in a warzone match where a player screamed at a crying child rather than putting down the bloody controller and taking care of it. In this case I’m fairly certain it was an infant. I don’t care if you go afk or quit, the child is more important than the game. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. So I put out the call if you’re a parent, if you’re babysitting, or if you’re watching your kid sister/brother put the kid first.

I heard the player beat his wife so in that situation do I put down the controller and call 911?

Hopefully it was a kid playing and the kid wasn’t responsible.

I entered a WZ game with a few strong players a few days ago and wanted to enjoy it to the fullest but my neighbor had been broken into and I couldn’t say sorry I’m busy right now (it was early in the 1st game) . They ripped out all the copper out the walls.

If you know where the man lives and his name would hope you would…

I don’t that’s just my favorite story because it was my first warzone match ever and thats what I hear.

Hearing this type of thing, drives me nuts. When it comes to my kids, nothing, and I mean nothing comes before them. It brings tears to my eyes when hearing that a parent is not doing their job. They did not ask to come in this world, what gives you the right to ignore their pleas. Put down the dam controller and take care of them.

Very, very sad that this should even have to be said.

Good God man… that’s where you swat the guy.

You’d have no joy on that.

At least you did the right thing.

Wouldn’t condone that practice under other circumstances…but in that case definitely.

I don’t know if it’s pure selfishness, misplaced priorities, or a failure to grasp the lasting harm this could cause.

This is why afk booting needs to go, real world happens when you least expect it, you can’t just say “Well then you shouldn’t have started a match.” This is the response of someone who doesn’t understand, bad things happen in this world, and even good things too, but if we have to go afk for an extended period of time to do something we weren’t expecting to do, we shouldn’t get kicked from a game and risk a random length ban just because we had something more important to do. NOW that being said, if you go afk in a match for let’s say a total of 5 minutes consecutively without moving, when the game ends, you get kicked out of the MM lobby so as not to enter another game, BUT you get a 10 minute cool down before you can re-enter matchmaking. This would’ve been a fairer way to deal with afker’s than just to kick them and possibly end up banning them in the process.

No. Afking still hurts your team the appropriate thing to do is take care of the child and if you get booted and a short ban so be it. The idea that someone would even consider a short ban from online matchmaking as relevant when a child needs to taken care of is deplorable. Anyone who would think…“Well, I can’t quit or go afk cause I might be banned” while an infant in their care was crying…has no business playing Halo.

People are a lot more important than video games.

I’d agree if the bans were like 10-15 minutes maximum, but an 8 HOUR BAN is BS!

It’s a progressive discipline system. To get an eight hour ban you had to be banned a whole lot. That person had to consistently break the rules. If you want to discuss the ban system further take it to the ban thread. The link is in my signature. And yes…if someone is taking care of a child and you think, “Well, My last ban was for four hours and my next will be for eight hours I can’t possibly take care of the crying baby” then that person is horrible. No sane person would even consider that. That’s the kind of attitude I deal with in my day job, not Halo.

you said it. no SANE person will put a game before a childs needs. but there are very sick people in this world, just hope not meet them in person.

See I can understand afk booting in competitive modes, and I can agree with ideas like that, but in infection, and Firefight especiallly, afking should not get you booted. Aw boohoo the team is down one man for 10 minutes! OMG someone, stop the presses! No but seriously, in social/non-competitive modes afk booting should not apply. I’d assume this was implemented mainly due to the dedicated servers. However many like myself don’t care for this kind of thing in a Halo title, ever wonder why the H5 population is so low? It’s because of crappy mechanics and unfair treatment, going afk for 10 minutes NO MATTER WHAT should NEVER result in more than a 10 minute ban, in fact bans SHOULD NOT be over 20 minutes, allow me to explain:

In previous titles you could get perma-banned from MM by either cheating, hacking, or just being the king of -Yoink-, these justify perma-bans, I’ve heard tales of week long bans for Afking and quitting in Halo 5, neither of which justify more than a 20 minute ban or “timeout” as I like to call it. The fact is face it, the only reason people defend this system is because they know they can’t play well enough to rely on their own skill unless backed with a FULL team. If someone my team afk’s fine by me, means the enemy has a target and I have a kill farm.

Again you want to whine about the ban system. Go to the ban thread. Trying to deflect from obviously unethical and deplorable behavior doesn’t work with me and has no place in this thread. If you want to try and make a rational argument why not being able to play a video game online should somehow make it okay or not utterly and completely reprehensible to fail to take care of a helpless child who is crying feel free, otherwise take it to the appropriate thread and I or someone else will deal with your POV there.

This is one hella good post you’ve put up. If you got some really important sh*t to do (homework, babysitting, chores, etc) outside of Halo, get that out of the way first. Possessing ignorance of that caliber is borderline ridiculous.

Happens to me. I have to just drop out sometimes. Sucks more in League of Legends :D. Usually I just bring them over and let them watch me play if they are upset. The colors and movement entertains the little guy if he’s just upset for those “I just want to cry” moments.

Humanity, I swear…

Do you think Microsoft can obtain account holder information if the Police get involved? One would hope.

depends on wich country this guy is, not all countries punish this kind of behavior. and all countries have the same law about personal info protection.
