I’m making this post because a lot of people don’t seem to know this. If you’ve gotten to the point where you know you’ve lost a ranked game, don’t resign, self destruct your bases and wait out the one minute. Resigning in ranked play will hurt you for two reasons:
-
You lose more CSR (the score that determines what ranked tier you are in -platinum, diamond, onyx, etc.) if you resign. (I haven’t spent a lot of time confirming this but its been widely reported.)
-
Your MMR (the behind the scenes skill rating that controls matchmaking) will not go down if you resign. This seems to be an oversight in the game. You don’t want your MMR to be falsely inflated for two reasons. The first and most obvious is that if your MMR is too high you will be much more likely to be matched against opponents who are above you in skill, which will make the game less enjoyable for you. Secondly, your CSR goes up and down based on the relative MMR of your opponent (beat someone above you and you go up more, lose to someone below you and you fall further). With the combination of harder matches, bigger CSR drops and smaller CSR gains you will find it extremely difficult to climb the ladder if you resign frequently.
