I just want to bring to light something that has been on my mind for a long while now and I think something should have been said long ago. I’m sure most of you out there have had the displeasure of finally getting lucky enough to pull off a glorious assassination during a match, only to have it stolen by a greedy teammate. This happens far more often now than it ever did in reach or in Halo 4. Please just remember, assassinations are meant to be special, and if you take them from someone, they get no credit whatsoever.
Also, feel free to discuss ideas to improve this system and to prevent The assassin from walking away empty-handed.
I think that 343 should just make the enemy you are assassinating un killable
Well that is the thing, Junky. There are still medals such as Show Stopper that involves one or both parties. That aside, I can see your point as clear as the glass on Reach. A funny thing I used to do in Halo 5’s BTB was if I saw an ally getting assassinated, I’d fire a sniper round into their skull preventing the enemy from getting the point. Then I’d land one in the player as they leave the animation. Jerk move, I know, but it is worth it.
Just turn assassinations off. There is nothing worse than getting killed while assassinating. Mine have been off for a while and it has improve my game by a lot.
I want to say have it like DOOM glory kills where the enemy stops shooting at you, but this would apply to AI, as assassinating a warden or Knight boss getting interupted gets very annoying.
Assassinations have some of the longest kill times in the game, and are a inefficient means of dispatching enemies.
Thanks for holding my prey still.
Greedy teammates can’t be fixed, sadly.
Those kinds of people are also the ones that would chase an assassination opportunity across whole maps. They see someone with their back turned halfway across a WZ map, and off they go, chasing someone they could have easily taken out any other way. In fact, just the other day, someone with an overshield on tried to get a free assassination on an AFK teammate of mine in BTB, and he must have forgotten that he had a radar, because he didn’t see my blip nearby. I beat him down just before he got the chance to take out the guy he wanted to.
I don’t assassinate anyone unless I’m sure I can pull it off. I use it on people who are isolated, distracted, and unaware of my presence. Only when I’m sure no one else is nearby, and when no one has a line of sight on me or my victim. Otherwise, I’m gonna be stopped midway, either by my greedy twelve-year-old teammates, or by the hostiles nearby.
You don’t need to toggle them off. Just choose your victims very carefully.

I don’t think Reach’s glassed surface is very clear.
I’m not as bothered by teammates stealing assassinations as much as I am when I’m halfway through the animation, I get killed by the enemy, but the guy I was assassinating also dies, yet I get no credit for it.
Getting yoinked still sucks though.
Just to be clear, the issue that i want to discuss is that whenever you finally get the opportunity to perform an assassination upon an enemy, your teammates decide that they want the kill instead of you. The real point I’m trying to make is, don’t steal a teammate’s assassination. Assassinations are a reward for the player, to think that they just did something amazing and be rewarded by the kill point, the medal, and the awesome animation they get to watch.
It would be such an easy fix. Either make it to where the enemy cannot be killed by anybody else once the assassination animation has started or make it to where you get credit for the kill once the animation has started even if another plays kills the enemy before you finish the animation.

I think that the second choice would be best, the assassin will get credit even if they don’t get to see the animation, and don’t have to worry that they will go unrewarded.

Wouldn’t consider punching someone in the back as “amazing”.

Its the principle. Someones doing a really cool assassination on an enemy, you shouldn’t be greedy and take there kill. Worse is when you are assassinating an enemy where no one else is and a teammate runs up and steals it when no one is around.

I don’t intentionally steal them, however if I turn a corner and see one happening I’m going to open fire most of the time. With a lot of the animations it can be difficult to tell who is killing who in a fraction of a second.

Please just turn them off. They aren’t helping you.

*principle
People shouldn’t do a lot of things, yet they still do them. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to deal with getting yoinked. But, you know what? We don’t live in a perfect world. Besides, going in for an assassination always has its risks. One of them being teammates taking kills, though, to be honest, as long as my team gets credit for it, I don’t really care.

If you want to showboat, do it in your own time. If you’re on my team and messing around like that, I’ll gladly take the shot for you. It’s not being greedy, it’s wanting to play well. The best players disable assassinations, as they don’t like to waste time.
I always take the shot, end of story. Getting tired of seeing these selfish threads pop up repeatedly tbh, mods can’t we have a super “don’t steal my assassinations” thread? They seem to appear every week lately.

Its selfish to steal an assassination from a teammate simply because you don’t like the idea of them using their time to get it. I don’t care for being a good player, I just want to have fun, so how about you go tryhard by yourself and let me get my assassinations ok? Win + Win = Win.
I’ve actually had the opposite happen. I engaged the enemy with my firearm and a teammate crept up and assassinated the guy while I was about to drop him. Does the etiquette work both ways?
For the record if I see a teammate assassinating I just sit and watch the show. Just throwing it out there that it goes both ways.
