Halo has always had proximity voice chat up until Halo 4. When an enemy player was within a certain range you were able to hear them. If i was sneakin along in Lockout I could hear the enemy team above me conversing with each other.
When someone smashed my face in i could hear his fart noises as he sat on my face. I know this brings out a mixed bag of feelings for people on either side. I personally enjoy the friendly banter/trash talking between enemies. I know at times it can be extreme and we want to just MOOOT (mute) everyone.
Give me the option to converse with the enemy and also mute them when it gets out of hand. Give me a preference in the settings menu.
Proximity Voice chat ON/OFF. Thats all im asking for. If we are truely going back to the roots and paying respects to the original Halo 2 shouldn’t we also have the same features that were offered?
We should not only offer the same features but build upon them. Give me the option to toggle it on or off. Its not fun when everyone is in a private party chat.
When my microphone was destroyed by my friends cat, we went out that same day to circuit city and bought a replacement. The MIC is a must!
Please do not flame because i enjoy teabaggin kids while making farting noises. I have made best of friends on live with players that were once my enemies. That’s the beauty of proximity voice chat.
In the postgame lobby u invite ur enemy to keep playing rumble pit w/ u. And u both get an understanding that u both stomp kids out. “Send Friend Request.”
Remember I am all for the option to enable/disable proximity voice chat as a preference setting.
A proximity chat is rather fun to have but also irritating just like you stated. And I’m all with you when you say that it should be toggleable.
Though having proximity chat is more of a social feature because having it competetive play allows you to hear the enemy strats which can be seen as a strategic thing but I see it as a disadvantage. You’ll be forced to not get near dead bodies when you kill them or you’ll be forced to be in party chat because you don’t want the enemy team to hear that you’re close when sneaking around.
So I’d say that it should be an in-game setting aswell as a personal one but they don’t go over each other, the in-game setting is prioritized. Toggle it off in competetive play and keep it on within social play.
E.x: Toggled in-game. Don’t like it, remove it in personal settings.
Toggled off in-game. Personal settings can’t change it.
I for one loved proximity voice and was really disappointed by it’s lack of being in Halo 4. I’ll be pretty disappointed if it isn’t in MCC, but I have a feeling it won’t be because I remember hearing that 343 said the reason they took it out was because it would cause lag. Since MCC has dedicated servers, proximity voice wouldn’t be a problem.
I liked proximity chat in Halo 2. But with the innovation of party chat, it’s kind of a moot feature that will appease only a small group of people, mainly those who solo queue.
I would just like to reference that without party chat we lose many fun and enjoyable custom games such as cops and robbers or teacher. I miss those and there is even one that I played with a very select few of friends called city that was very complex, but the best custom game I have ever played in my life and yet it specifically require party chat otherwise it will NOT work.
Hey Everyone…I don’t frequent the forums here much but have been an avid Halo player since the original. I have a question about the Chat settings in MCC. There is the setting to either select ‘My Team’ or ‘All’ for Chat. Very similar to all other Halo games. Now…the problem I’ve noticed is that when my friends and I (who only play custom private party games because we’re old) play a team game when set to ‘My Team’…we only hear our team (minus the proximity, which I agree was a GREAT thing, hope it comes back!)…however when we play a free for all game…we hear no one! In all prior games, when you had it set to ‘My Team’ but were in a FFA game, you could hear everyone. Isn’t that a bug in this new game? Or do they now consider that a ‘feature’?
I apologize for asking this question in a ‘proximity’ forum post…but didn’t find any other forum discussing the topic.
