Proximity contesting the flag or bomb (Halo 2

Halo 2 definitely had the best ctf/flag setup. The way contesting was unlimited instead of just a stupid 30 seconds was amazing and made for some intense matches.

One of my favorite things was if the round time limit was about to end in a ctf match, you could hide near the flag and the round would keep going until the enemy found you and killed you.

The same went for the bomb as well. As long as it was held by the offensive team, the round would not end.

Rarely (almost never), a team would glitch out of the map and hide the bomb or flag if they were losing and wait out the other team until they got bored and quit. That’s the only reason why I can think that it was removed.

I was upset that contesting only lasted 30 seconds no matter what in 3 and Reach. That meant no more frantic standoffs in overtime mode.

I really miss those intense skirmishes on Halo 2. I wonder if I will ever get that ultra competitive, intense feeling in objective matches in this new trilogy.

That could go either way. Reach had a large income of newer players to the Halo games. If this was the case it would mean 2 people would hide with the flag and the game would never end because the newer Halo players only care about kills. (That last sentence is kind of a rant about how I felt that objective was broken from nobody even trying to accomplish anything.)

Now that you get much larger credit bonuses for winning a match, I don’t see that being the case as much.

Plus, I think that there should be a 7 minute limit to how long contesting can go. It doesn’t need to be forever. Just not 30 seconds.
