Proximity chat

Does anyone want Proximity chat back in games? That used to be one of my favorite things (especially in Grifball).

do you mean proximity chat?

What is proximity chat.

Where you can hear the other team’s mic chat just by being close to them.

WHAT?! That sounds so cool but horrible at the same time.

Honestly, I don’t think it’d make much sense. The Spartans would be running UNSC code to try and intercept the other teams comms, which would be encrypted by the UNSC. And I’d be willing to bet that the first thing the UNSC uses to test their encryption software is their own intrusion software. Which would also make it the first thing that they would fix the encryption software against. It’s like trying to pick a lock that’s made specifically to defeat the lockpick you’re using.

As for gameplay, I think the only thing it would do is make it even harder to call for help from your teammates when you’re in a sticky situation. As it is you’re probably not going to get any help from your team, and if you add proximity chat in, you’re then going to risk being found to call for help that probably won’t come anyways.

It was a great feature in earlier halo games.

I understand the encryption mindset, I just go back to the hearing the com’s in proximity in the actual battles. Isn’t it possible that the coms could be jammed by the UNSC’s jammers (as an equipment test ) then the spartans would have to use the external speakers to communicate

Until you ran into that guy who was camping in the corner of the map blasting awful music through his mic just to disorient you…

Never had that issue to be honest. I know i would use it to find campers though, just listening for the giggles of kids in the corner

Trust me it happened a lot, you’d be hopping through the map and hear Dido or Gwar at ear bleeding levels get confused for a second and they would get the drop on you. You’d come back and kill them with ease the second time, but it was still pretty, annoying.

I’ll take your word for it. Was this back on halo 2?

yep, there were benefits to it, but I prefer the party/game chat system.
